RACE 7 (R898) CLASS 3 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 20 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 23 July 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of CONDADO. Further evidence was taken from App L De Souza, the rider of CONDADO, in the presence of his Master, Trainer R Lines, and Trainer S Siva, the trainer of CONDADO.

App L De Souza stated that he had ridden CONDADO as instructed in mid-to-rear as the horse was one-paced and had not shown early speed recently. Further that on straightening, he had to persist with an inside run as he believed it was detrimental to attempt to go wide. CONDADO had then been blocked and tightened inside PREMIUM STARS (S Ruzaini) but he had then ridden the gelding with strong whip use.

After considering the evidence and CONDADO’s finishing position (second) in relation to the winner, the Stewards did not consider they could substantiate a charge under the Rules.

RACE 8 (R899) CLASS 5 (A) – 1300M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 20 JULY 2019, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2019

The Stewards, on 23 July 2019 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the riding of CATCH ME GREAT. Evidence was taken from Jockey KC Wong, the rider of CATCH ME GREAT, and Trainer WC Lim, the trainer of CATCH ME GREAT.

Jockey KC Wong stated that he had been instructed to ride CATCH ME GREAT with cover as the gelding was inclined to pull hard. He was conscious of CATCH ME GREAT racing with its mouth open and it had raced with its head up, even under whip riding in the straight.

Trainer WC Lim confirmed that CATCH ME GREAT always raced fiercely and he had instructed it be ridden with cover to maximize its chances. Further, that his Supervisor had reported to him, post-race that the tongue-tie on CATCH ME GREAT was loose. The Club Veterinary Surgeon confirmed this and further that the bit on CATCH ME GREAT was sitting low.

Trainer WC Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 35(1) in that he presented CATCH ME GREAT in Race 8 on Saturday, 20 July 2019, with a tongue-tie which came loose.

Further, Trainer WC Lim pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 35(7) in that he failed to report to the Stipendiary Stewards that the tongue-tie on CATCH ME GREAT had come loose during the race and may have affected its performance.

In assessing the penalties, the Stewards took into consideration Trainer WC Lim’s guilty pleas, mitigating factors and his submissions on penalty. He was fined RM250/- for each charge (a total of RM500/-) and was advised of his Right of Appeal (3:37pm).
