PENANG SEPTEMBER MEETING 2019 – 2ND DAY,

Mr Philip Anderson (Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward – Chairman), Mr Lee Seng He (Senior Stipendiary Steward) and Mr Devaraj Arujunen (Stipendiary Steward).
RACE 1 (R1160) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M
MERCHANT MARINE (App A Suriya) was slow to begin and showed no early pace despite being urged.
HANDSOME BAB (S Ruzaini) was slow into stride.
ELITE ROCKET (S Anandan) laid out approaching the finish, taking PURPLE RAIN LADY (Z Khairil) wider on the track.
The saddle on BABY POLO (App P Haris) slipped back during the running of the race.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that D’GREAT WALL (AK Lim) returned lame and having cast its off fore plate. D’GREAT WALL will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of BABY POLO revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 2 (R1161) CLASS 5 (A) – 1400M
EASTWOOD which was up 24kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
AIR POWER (App CK Khaw) jumped away awkwardly.
BLACK GHOST (SS Vanan) brushed FRANCES (App L De Souza) passing the 800M.
Post-race veterinary examinations of D’GREAT TALENT (AK Lim) and FRANCES revealed no obvious abnormality. D’GREAT TALENT was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

RACE 3 (R1162) CLASS 5 (A) – 1600M
JEFFREY (Z Khairil) raced wide from the 700M until entering the straight.
Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of SONIC-X reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that SONIC-X returned lame near fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
App L De Souza, the rider of JJ STAR, reported that his mount was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that JJ STAR returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of MR CONNERY (J De Souza) revealed no obvious abnormality.
The Stewards questioned Trainer B Ng into the improved performance of DESTINY KNIGHT (HK Cheng). He stated that after its previous start in Ipoh, he had been disappointed with the gelding’s race. He further stated that DESTINY KNIGHT had recently trialed well and he thought that the distance and track condition of today’s race contributed to the gelding’s improved performance. His explanation was noted.

RACE 4 (R1163) CLASS 4 (A) – 1400M
LUWAK COFFEE (S Muniandy) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Q NINE MAGIC (App S Saddam) which rolled in at the 900M.
App S Rosmizan, the rider of BRAVE MALALA, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of BRAVE MALALA revealed no obvious abnormality.
Post-race veterinary examinations of HUN YEANG ROAD (App S Hafis), LUWAK COFFEE and NEVERTHELESS (S Ruzaini) revealed no obvious abnormality.

[ONLY APPRENTICE ALLOWANCE PERMITTED]
Emergency acceptor, OK KID was withdrawn due to a capacity field.
BEST TO THELIGN (App CK Khaw) was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barrier and was passed fit to race.
HONGCHEN (App S Hafis) jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride.
ARAGORN (App CT Lee) was slow into stride.
RELAU STAR (Z Khairil) raced wide from the 800M until entering the straight.
BEST TOTHELIGN had to be checked to avoid the heels of GOLDEN TYCOON (S Ruzaini) at the 700M when GOLDEN TYCOON rolled in.
MR CROWE (R Shafiq) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RELAU STAR at the 300M and shifted out for a clear run.
App L De Souza was dislodged from DESIRE SKY on pulling-up, was checked by the Club Medical Officer and was certified well to fulfill the remainder of his engagements for the day.
Post-race veterinary examinations of KERAUNO (App P Haris), D’GREAT CONQUEROR (J De Souza), DESIRE SKY, ARAGORN and GOLDEN TYCOON all revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 6 (R1165) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M
Emergency acceptor, CHERON WARRIOR was withdrawn due to a capacity field.
Trainer S Shanmugam was fined RM1,000/- under MRA Regulation 20.6 as read with MRA Regulation 20.3.1 for failing to ensure the vaccination status (Equine Influenza) was current for HEAVENLY GIFT. HEAVENLY GIFT was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 2.45 pm.
POLO BOY which was up 15kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
ASIAN TIGER (App S Rosmizan) jumped away awkwardly.
GOLDEN ROOSTER (HS Gill) had to steady shortly after the start when HYDRANT (App A Suriya) shifted out and at the same time D’GREAT SONG (J De Souza) shifted in.
GOLD SEAL (S Anandan) raced ungenerously in the early stages and threw its head up.
ALIEN (App L De Souza) raced wide from the 700M until entering the straight.
At the conclusion of an Inquiry, App A Suriya, the rider of HYDRANT in the presence of his Acting Trainer, Trainer C Robert, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that racing to the 1100M, he shifted inwards when insufficiently clear of D’GREAT WORLD resulting in BLACK IS POWER (App CK Khaw) and ASIAN TIGER racing on the inside of D’GREAT WORLD having to check. App A Suriya was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from Monday, 16th September 2019 and to expire on Sunday, 22nd September 2019, both days inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (4.50pm).
Racing to the 1000M, D’GREAT WORLD shifted out and bumped GOLDEN ROOSTER onto D’GREAT SONG which was taken out, resulting in GOLD SEAL having to check.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that TRIPLE ONE D’GREAT (App S Hafis) returned cut into off fore cannon.
Post-race veterinary examinations of ASIAN TIGER, MIROTIC (S Ruzaini) and GOLDEN ROOSTER revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 7 (R1166) CLASS 5 (A) – 1200M
REWARDING SMILE, a course scratching as it had a swollen left hock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
FORTYEIGHT QUEEN which was up 23kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.
ARECIBO (App L De Souza) was slow into stride.
The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that TEAM WINNER (Y Aify) returned having cast its near fore plate.
Post-race veterinary examinations of D’GREAT ACE (J De Souza) and HELLO SAYANG (Z Khairil) revealed no obvious abnormality.
App CK Khaw who rode his 80th winner on ASTRO MAN in this race, would only be entitled to claim 1kg allowance as from Monday, 16th September 2019.

Emergency acceptor, NOVA RANGER was withdrawn due to a capacity field.
ALJAWHRA and ZAHRAT JUMEIRAH, both course scratchings as they had throat infection and a sore back respectively will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.
Jockey AK Lim, the rider of D’GREAT SPIRIT, Jockey Y Aify, the rider of SPIN FIRE, and App S Rosmizan, the rider of EATONS GOLD, all reported that their mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of D’GREAT SPIRIT and SPIN FIRE revealed no obvious abnormality. EATONS GOLD returned lame near fore and as such will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.
A post-race veterinary examination of UNCHAINED MELODY (App CT Lee) revealed no obvious abnormality.
