RACE 1 (R357) CLASS 5 – 1200M

Emergency acceptor, AMPED was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

At 1.22 pm, the Stewards permitted Jockey S Salee to replace Jockey SS Vanan on LEE’S MELODY as the latter had not arrived on course. Jockey SS Vanan, when subsequently questioned, advised the Stewards that he had left Ipoh with ample time to get to Penang today. However, there was an accident and major traffic jam which held him up. The Stewards noted his explanation.

THE PROFESSIONAL (R Woodworth) was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the start and passed fit to race.

BULL AND BEAR (App CK Khaw) was restless in the barrier, hesitated at the start and was slow to begin.

LUCK TREASURE (App KC Wong) stumbled at the start.

At the start, MY TOUCH (J Shankar) was inconvenienced when tightened between LIGHTNING ROD (App S Saddam) which jumped awkwardly outwards and GREEN TRACER (HK Cheng) which jumped awkwardly and laid inwards.

GREEN TRACER was pulling and was difficult to settle in the back straight.

LUCKY MONEY (App CT Lee) jumped awkwardly and shortly after the start, steadied when tightened between THE PROFESSIONAL and LEE’S MELODY (S Salee) which drifted inwards.

HIGH PEAK (S Anandan) was caught four wide on the turn at the 700M.

Shortly after entering the home straight, LEE’S MELODY was momentarily held up on the heels of DRAGON WALK (J Low) which laid outwards.

At about the 150M, LAZAROO (S Ruzaini) switched outwards for a clear run. At about the same stage of the race, THE PROFESSIONAL checked on the inside of GREEN TRACER which rolled inwards when stopping under pressure.

Approaching the 100M mark, LUCKY MONEY was bumped on the inside of BLACK AHEAD (C Goon) which laid inwards away from the whip. Jockey C Goon was shown the video replay and warned to make more attempt to keep his horses on a straight course in future.

Approaching the finishing post, ANAK PENANG (L Sofhan) steadied outwards away from DRAGON WALK which rolled outwards under pressure.

Post-race veterinary examinations of THE PROFESSIONAL and BULL AND BEAR revealed no obvious abnormality. THE PROFESSIONAL was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

ULTIMATE HERO which was down 18kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

GHOST CITY (App S Rosmizan) was restless in the barrier, hesitated, reared at the start and was slow to begin.

GOLDEN SAND (WK Yan) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start onto HUSSAR (App CT Lee).

LEE’S DEFENDER (SS Vanan) and MARINI WALTZ (J Chuah) were both caught four wide on the turn at the 700M.

Approaching the 100M, MOLLY BROWNE (C Goon) hesitated in restricted galloping room and switched outwards around the heels of BLACK IS POWER (Lou Ho) for a clear run.

At about the 100M FUMIO (J Low) drifted outwards under pressure and brushed HUSSAR.

Post-race veterinary examinations of MOLLY BROWNE and PIUS TOUCH (App Z Khairil) revealed no obvious abnormality. MOLLY BROWNE was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

Jockey TM Wan, the rider of BUKIT BINTANG, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 3 (R359) CLASS 4 – 1700M

PISCES JET (App KC Wong) became restless in the barrier and kicked the back gate prior to the start.

LIM’S MIRAGE (Lou Ho) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start.

Shortly after the start, RUNFORIT (S Ruzaini) lost ground after clipping the heels of SOCOTRA (M Yusri) when being taken outwards by FLIGHT OFTHE SAKER (App AM Aizat) which received some pressure from PISCES JET which jumped awkwardly outwards.

Rounding the turn at about the 1400M, RUNFORIT steadied off the heels of SUPER CROWN (SS Vanan) which rolled inwards.

Approaching the 200M mark, KUANTAN HILL (App M Sathiaa) laid inwards away from the whip. At about the same time, MR PAULANDRE (J De Souza) commenced to drift outwards under pressure into the whip.

In the concluding stages, KUANTAN HILL was carried outwards on the outside of MR PAULANDRE which continued to drift outwards away from the whip. As Jockey J De Souza, the rider of MR PAULANDRE, had left the course, he will be shown the video replay and will be warned to make more attempt to keep his horses on a straight course in future. Furthermore, he will be questioned regarding the fact that he left the course before the prescribed time after his last riding engagement (MRA Rule 44.2).

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that RUNFORIT returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIM’S MIRAGE revealed no obvious abnormality.

Trainer LN Danis who was not on course, will be questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of MR PAULANDRE.

RACE 4 (R360) COSMO B – 1700M

Trainer EV Breukelen was fined RM1,000/- for failing to ensure the vaccination status (EI/EHV) was current for MESSI in terms of MRA Regulation 20.3 as read with MRA Regulation 20.6. MESSI was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 1.25 pm.

Shortly after start, HOLY EMPIRE (App S Rosmizan) steadied and lost ground when tightened on the outside of RIGHT TIMING (J Low) which received pressure from FEISTY LEO (J De Souza) which was carried outwards by WINDCHASER (R Woodworth) which jumped awkwardly outwards.

RACE 5 (R361) CLASS 4 – 1300M

SIAM THE TRIUMPH which was up 21kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

OUR TOUCHE (App Z Khairil) and AWAKENED (App J Daniel) were both a little slow to begin at the start.

CIZEN (R Woodworth) was tightened shortly after the start and lost some ground. Thereafter, CIZEN was pulling and was difficult to settle in the back straight and on the turn at the 700M.

Rounding the turn into the home straight, WHY LIKE THAT (J Chuah) and CIZEN were carried outwards by WAR LORD (TM Wan) and shortly after entering the home straight, CIZEN switched inwards for a clear run.

AWAKENED drifted outwards and finished the race wide.

A post-race veterinary examination of CIZEN revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

RACE 6 (R362) CLASS 4 – 1300M

SATELLITE GENIUS, a course scratching as it had sustained a cut to its forehead in the float, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

POWERFUL FIGHTER (J Low) jumped awkwardly at the start.

SUPERB SEVEN (HK Cheng) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start and in doing so, carried TAWQEET (App S Rosmizan) outwards.

OUR FRIENDLY DIVA (L Sofhan) was a little slow to begin after the start.

The saddle on ORIENTAL SPIRIT (App Z Khairil) slipped backwards during the running.

App AM Aizat, the rider of SAND LANE and Jockey L Sofhan, the rider of OUR FRIENDLY DIVA, reported that their respective mounts were not striding out freely. Post-race veterinary examinations of SAND LANE and OUR FRIENDLY DIVA revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of TILSWORTH FREDDIE (App SU Lim) and FLAMING FIREHEART (C Goon) revealed no obvious abnormality. Both geldings were Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

MR JAI, a course scratching as it was bruised near fore fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

WASHINGTON BAY which was down 24kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

At the start, LUCK ALOT (App KC Wong) and WASHINGTON BAY (M Yusri) were slow to begin.

RANGITAIKI (HK Cheng) jumped awkwardly at the start and shortly after the start, lost some ground when tightened between ZENIDEKKA (C Goon) and SOUTH EMPEROR (App Z Khairil).

RANGITAIKI was pulling and was difficult to settle in the back straight.

At about the 100M, JUST NAME IT (App SU Lim) drifted inwards away from the whip and made contact with DELTA WING (Lou Ho) on 2 occasions. An Objection was lodged by Jockey Lou Ho, the rider of DELTA WING, placed second, against JUST NAME IT (App SU Lim), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference inside the final 100M. After considering all the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the results of the race bearing in mind also the winning margin of 1¾ lengths. As such, the Objection was overruled and the results stood. As App SU Lim left the course, an Inquiry into the incident at about the 100M was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

A post-race veterinary examination of ZENIDEKKA revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that RANGITAIKI returned lame off fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

App Z Khairil was stood down by the Club Medical Officer after the running of this race (cramps).

FLYING HORSE, a course scratching as it was sore near fore fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SERPICO which was down 18kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

This race was rescheduled to start 10 minutes later at 5.50 pm.

The Stewards permitted App KC Wong to replace App Z Khairil on COCONUT.

SACRED ACHIEVER (S Salee) was restless in the barrier and kicked the back gate prior to the start.

COCONUT (App KC Wong) hesitated at the start, was slow to begin and showed no pace in the early part of the race despite being urged.

PRETTY ABLE (S Thai Yang) was pulling and was difficult to settle in the early part of the race.

At about the 800M, PRETTY ABLE steadied when squeezed for galloping room between DUEL OF HONOUR (Lou Ho) and FAIRBORN (S Anandan) which received some pressure from TOMORROW’S GOLD (App CT Lee).

TOKO (R Woodworth) had a tendency to lay in at about the 200M.

Approaching the 100M mark, ZAC SUGGESTION (J Chuah) rolled outwards and brushed TOKO.

A post-race veterinary examination of DUEL OF HONOUR revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

App AM Aizat, who rode his 40th winner on GOLD KIDS in this race, would only be entitled to claim 2kgs allowance as from Monday, 20th March 2017.

RACEHORSE “ILUMINADO” TRAINED BY TRAINER A SCOTT WHICH WON IN RACE 6 (R1588), MALAYSIA GROUP 1 – 2000m, [3 YEAR OLDS & ABOVE], 3rd DAY, SUNDAY, 25th DECEMBER 2016, PENANG DECEMBER YANG DI-PERTUA GOLD CUP MEETING 2016 AND ITS POST-RACE

SAMPLE CODED “08342” RETURNING POSITIVE TO “METHAMPHETAMINE”

The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory reported that the referee sample coded “08342” upon analysis, returned positive to “Methamphetamine” via external confirmation certificate dated 3rd March 2017.

On Friday, 3rd March 2017 at 4.58pm, Trainer Anna Scott was advised the result of the confirmatory tests by telephone and email. On 6th March 2017, she was informed that an Inquiry into the matter will be held at a date to be fixed.

CLEARANCE SAMPLE

On Friday, 17th March 2017, the Stewards were informed by USains Biomics Laboratory that the clearance sample coded “17097” which was taken from ILUMINADO on the 3rd of March 2017, upon analysis, is free from any prohibited substance.

As such, ILUMINADO is cleared to race under MRA Rule 134(12).

INQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND HANDLING OF “BLACK RAIN” RIDDEN BY APP. S.ZULFIKRI IN RACE 3 (R084) [CLASS 4 – 1100M], 1st DAY, SATURDAY, 14th JANUARY 2017, PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2017

Inquiry into the above matter which was set on 10th February 2017, 10th March 2017, 17th March 2017 was unable to proceed and was granted postponement on these dates for the following reasons:-

10th February 2017 – App S Zulfikri requested for his master Trainer PS Kumaran to be present and an interpreter.
