RACE 1 (R322) CLASS 5 – 1100M

PRINCE ISLANDER (S Anandan) hesitated at the start, jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin.

Approaching the turn at about the 800M, COSTNER (TM Wan) was inconvenienced when tightened on the inside of I’M KOOL (App M Sathiaa) and PROPITIONS GOLD (S Sandana) which received some pressure from AMPED (App Z Khairil). Shortly afterwards, COSTNER checked after brushing the inside running rail and lost some ground.

JP SUMMER (J Shankar) was trapped wide on the turn at the 700M.

App Z Khairil, the rider of AMPED, was unbalanced on the turn shortly after the 700M, causing his saddle to momentarily shift to the offside.

POLO GAGA (M Ganeesh) drifted outwards under pressure in the closing stages.

Jockey S Sandana, the rider of PROPITIONS GOLD, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that COSTNER returned exhibiting signs of respiratory distress and as such will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of I’M KOOL and NEW CLASSMATE (J Low) revealed no obvious abnormality.

NEW CLASSMATE and COSTNER were both Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

RACE 2 (R323) CLASS 5 – 1100M

IKTO (J De Souza) turned its head in the barrier just prior to the start and was slow to begin.

At the start, HAPPY AMIGO (App S Zulfikri) jumped awkwardly outwards onto HIGH PEAK (S Sandana) which had to be steadied.

GREEN TRACER (HK Cheng) and HAPPY AMIGO were both difficult to settle in the early stages.

ZAC GALLANT (S Thai Yang) raced wide on the turn into the home straight.

Post-race veterinary examinations of ZAC GALLANT and THONG’S JIAQING (J Chuah) revealed no obvious abnormality. ZAC GALLANT and THONG’S JIAQING were both Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

App M Zairi who rode his 40th winner on DYNAMIC TRIO in this race, would only be entitled to claim 2kgs allowance as from Monday, 13th March 2017.

When questioned about his ride on ZAC GALLANT, Jockey S Thai Yang advised the Stewards that it was his first time riding ZAC GALLANT and Trainer S Hamilton had told him that this horse could be very difficult in the barrier and as such, the stable had requested 2 handlers to hold this horse in the gates. After jumping from the barrier, Jockey S Thai Yang did not chase ZAC GALLANT forward as instructed and ended up further back than he had intended. Once at the rear, ZAC GALLANT began to race keenly and was unable to stay towards the inside and commenced to race wide on the turn from the 800M whilst making up ground. Trainer S Hamilton confirmed the instructions for this horse were to be closer to the pace and advised that this horse was difficult in the barrier and he was to be mindful. After considering the matter and reviewing the video replay, the Stewards advised Jockey S Thai Yang that they were not entirely satisfied with his ride as he should have attempted to maintain a more forward position earlier after the start. He was warned that in future, he was to ride his horses so as to leave no room for query.

Trainer B Ng, when questioned regarding the improved performance of FAIRBORN (S Anandan), was unable to give any tangible explanation other than stating that FAIRBORN was a mediocre horse racing in an average field. His riding instructions and training programme had been unchanged. His explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the Rules regarding “in-and-out” running (MRA Rule 117(3)).

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BALBOA, Trainer K Coetzee stated that the gelding had been working well and was expected to run well today.
