RACE 1 (R550) CLASS 5 – 1300M

TRAVERTINE (HS Gill) was slow to begin.

FLEDGELING (SU Lim) was slow into stride and showed no pace despite being urged.

SILENT DREAMS (M Ganeesh) was brushed by SHAHPUR JAT (App J Daniel) racing to the 1100M and then lost its position when SHAHPUR JAT rolled in and FIRST OPTION             (S  Ruzaini) rolled out. 

SILENT DREAMS had to be steadied at the 700M to avoid the heels of SHAHPUR JAT which rolled in.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FIRST OPTION returned with cut to off hind and will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of FLEDGELING and SILENT DREAMS revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 2 (R551)  CLASS 5  – 1300M

HACKER, a course scratching as it had respiratory infection, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

App S Saddam, the rider of DEPUTY LAW, lost the use of his near side stirrup iron for a short distance after jumping away.

TURNED OUT (Z Khairil) laid in away from the whip over the final 100M and at the 50M, brushed DEPUTY LAW.  Jockey Z Khairil was shown the vision of the incident and advised to stop riding and straighten his mount under similar circumstances in future. 

Post-race veterinary examinations of RANGITAIKI (J Mallyon), DOUBLE JEOPARDY (App CK Khaw) and GLORY KID (CK Tan) revealed no obvious abnormality.  RANGITAIKI was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

The Stewards questioned Trainer J Tan into the improved performance of TURNED OUT.  He stated that it was the gelding’s first start for him and it was also resuming from a spell.  TURNED OUT had been working well since entering his stable and he expected a good performance today.   His explanation was noted.

Jockey Z Khairil who rode his 80th winner on TURNED OUT in this race, would only be entitled to claim 1kg allowance as from Monday, 30th April 2018.

SO ON (App WK Lee) jumped away awkwardly, threw its head up on several occasions shortly after the start and raced keenly in the early part of the race. 

TONGARIRO (J Low) had no clear running on entering the straight and passing the 200M, had to be steadied when SO ON which was weakening, rolled out and had to shift to the outside of IDYLLIC SCENERY (HS Gill) to obtain clear running.

SO ON laid out racing to the 100M and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ARIF (App S Rosmizan).

Post-race veterinary examinations of ARIF, SO ON and TONGARIRO revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 4 (R553) CLASS 4 – 1200M

ASPREY which was down 19kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

CIZEN (App CK Khaw) was difficult to proceed to the start and had to be led.  CIZEN will be required to pass one starting stall test (to be ridden unaided to the start) before being declared to race again.

Acting on veterinary advice that CIZEN sustained a cut on the tongue, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 3.31 pm. CIZEN will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

D’GREAT GLORY (App S Rosmizan) jumped away awkwardly and brushed BOOSTER         (J De Souza).

D’GREAT TALENT (App AM Aizat) was slow into stride. 

LARCENY (App J Daniel) rolled out under pressure racing to the 200M and as a result,  BOOSTER had to be steadied and shifted out over the heels of RAJA MAHKOTA                   (S Anandan) to obtain a clear run.

Post-race veterinary examinations of LARCENY, ASPREY (S Salee) and D’GREAT EMPRESS (HK Cheng) revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into an incident at the 800M to a date to be fixed.

Prior to the ‘All Clear’ being given, an objection was lodged by Jockey J De Souza, the rider of BOOSTER, placed 2nd against RAJA MAHKOTA (S Anandan), being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference at about the 200M. After considering the evidence, the Racing Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference had not affected the result of the race. The objection was overruled and the result stood.

D’GREAT BULLET (App CK Khaw) and OK KID (F Yap) bumped shortly after the start. 

Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of TAWQEET, reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.  The gelding was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

HOME RUN HERO, a course scratching as it was bruised off fore sole, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

TIME TO SHINE, a course scratching as it had a bruised near fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

KING SAVINSKY (S Salee) jumped away awkwardly.

COCONUT (App R Ruwaidy) was slow to begin and showed no early pace despite being urged.

Jockey S Anandan, the rider of SOKOR GEDEBE, reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

Post-race veterinary examinations of LAZAROO (Z Khairil) and COCONUT revealed no obvious abnormality.  LAZAROO and COCONUT which raced poorly, will each be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

App R Ruwaidy, the rider of COCONUT, in the presence of his Master, Trainer C Robert, was shown the vision of the race and advised of the Rules in respect of excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.  He was further advised that a repetition could lead to action being taken against him.

RACE 7 (R556) CLASS 5 – 1100M

DELTA WING (S Ruzaini) raced wide from the 800M until entering the straight.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that ELHAAME (J Mallyon) returned lame near fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

Post-race veterinary examinations of FLAMING FIREHEART (CK Tan) and SUPER GOOD (Lou Ho) revealed no obvious abnormality.

The Stewards questioned App S Rosmizan, the rider of D’GREAT LORD, in the presence of his Master, Trainer S Hamilton who is also the trainer of the mare.  Trainer S Hamilton stated that her instructions were to get a good jump and to settle D’GREAT LORD where it was comfortable in the race.  App S Rosmizan stated that he understood the instructions and after getting a good jump, he managed to settle in a midfield position and travelled well until entering the straight when he put the mare under pressure inside the 200M and rode it with the whip to the finish.  App S Rosmizan also stated that he had not improved earlier on the mare as he wanted to keep D’GREAT LORD balanced to obtain the best finish.  App S Rosmizan was informed that the Stewards were concerned with his failure to ride more vigorously prior to the 200M and advised to ride all his mounts out in a manner so as to leave no room for query.

ACME was down 19kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

ANAK PENANG (SU Lim) shifted in on jumping away and checked ACME (S Ruzaini) which lost its position.

Shortly after the start, PRINCE NANO (App CK Khaw) was tightened for room and had to ease when ANAK PENANG shifted in.

The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason PRINCE NANO had to check at the 800M to a date to be fixed.

Post-race veterinary examinations of ACME, WARN YOU MAN (App W Faizal), PEGASUS GENIUS (S Salee) and PRINCE NANO revealed no obvious abnormality.  WARN YOU MAN was Impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

The report dated 27th April 2018 (V18/042) from the Chief Analyst of USains Biomics Laboratory stated that 2 bottles of coded urine samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 14th April 2018 for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations.  No prohibited substances were detected.


PANEL OF STEWARDS’ INQUIRY INTO THE RIDING AND HANDLING OF FIREPUBLICGAME, RIDDEN BY JOCKEY TM WAN IN RACE 1 (R513)  CLASS 5 – 1200m(lc) – PUSCHKINIA HANDICAP, 3rd DAY, SUNDAY, 22ND APRIL 2018 – PERAK APRIL MEETING 2018.

On Monday, 23rd April 2018, the Panel of Stewards at the Perak Turf Club concluded an inquiry into the riding and handling of FIREPUBLICGAME by Jockey TM Wan in the above race.  Evidence were taken from Jockey TM Wan, the rider of FIREPUBLICGAME and Trainer SB Tan, the trainer of FIREPUBLICGAME.

After considering the evidence and reviewing the video, the Panel of Stewards found Jockey TM Wan guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The particulars of the charge are:

  1. From shortly after the start to the 600M, he unnecessarily restrained FIREPUBLICGAME;

2) From the 600M to the 400M, he failed to let FIREPUBLICGAME to improve when there was opportunity to do so.

When deciding on a penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into account Jockey TM Wan’s riding records and mitigating factors.   Jockey TM Wan was suspended from riding in races, trials and trackwork for a period of six (6) months with immediate effect from Monday, 23rd April 2018 and to expire on Monday, 22nd October 2018, both dates inclusive.   He was also advised of the provisions of MRA Rule 48(2) & 48(3).  In addition, he was fined the sum of RM20,000/= (Malaysian Ringgit:  Twenty Thousand only).  He was advised of his right of appeal (12.26pm).

Jockey TM Wan subsequently lodged a Notice of Appeal and applied for a stay of sentence on the 23rd April 2018.  His application for a stay was considered and granted at 3.00pm on 23rd April 2018.   His appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.


RACE 1 (R513)  CLASS 5 – 1200m(lc) – PUSCHKINIA HANDICAP

3rd DAY, SUNDAY, 22ND APRIL 2018 – PERAK APRIL MEETING 2018

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Monday, 23rd April 2018, Jockey TM Wan, the rider of FIREPUBLICGAME pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding the FIREPUBLICGAME at about the 300M, he shifted inward under the whip when insufficiently clear of GREAT GERONIMO  (HS Gill), resulting in GREAT GERONIMO having to check and lost ground.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into consideration Jockey TM Wan’s guilty plea and his disciplinary record.  Jockey TM Wan was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, effective from Monday, 23rd April 2018 and to expire on Sunday, 29th April 2018, both dates inclusive.   He was advised of his right of appeal (12.35pm).
