KUALA LUMPUR:  May 21, 2023

After being unplaced in his first five starts in the country, MAGIC CAPTAIN is starting to show us what he is capable of.

After all, the Australian gelding by Furnaces came to Malaysia with a record of one win and seven placings in 11 starts at three Down Under, including several placings at Moonee Valley and Sandown.

Dropped to Class 4 at the beginning of the year, MAGIC CAPTAIN found one to beat three starts back and he quickly stepped it up to score a runaway win the next run.

Back in Class 3, the four-year-old again found one to beat but swiftly bounced back with another runaway victory in the Korea Racing Authority Trophy at Sungei Besi here today.

Ridden by this season’s leading jockey Nuqman Faris Rozi, MAGIC CAPTAIN led his rivals on a merry chase in the Supreme C set-weight race over 1075m on the No 2 Track.

Always well clear of the field, he just went further and further ahead in the straight, eventually winning by 5 1/2 lengths much to the delight of the punters who had installed him odds-on favourite at RM8.

“This is my first time riding him,” said Nuqman. “He is very speedy and I see him winning many more races here.”

Trainer Richard Lines said: “He came to Malaysia with high expectations but has taken a while to acclimatize. As can be seen today, he has improved a lot with time. He has a bright future.”
