Sharee Hamilton to relinquish ‘A’ licence
Kuala Lumpur : April 3, 2026
Sharee Hamilton, the only woman trainer in the local circuit, will relinquish her ‘A’ licence after saddling six runners in Ipoh tomorrow and another five at Sungai Besi on Sunday.
The New Zealander, 52, will then become assistant trainer to 2024 champion trainer Simon Dunderdale.
“I am making the move for personal reason and I have been thinking about it for some time,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton came to Penang as a track rider to fellow Kiwi trainer John Sargent.
There she met budding apprentice Salee Saad in 1999 and they married a year later. They have two children, Samuel and Shaydinah.
Salee, unfortunately, passed away after a sudden illness just couple of weeks after riding his final winner, Thundergod, at Ipoh on Jan 4.

From being a track rider, Hamilton went on to become a stable supervisor, then as assistant trainer before being granted her ‘A’ licence in 2015.
She was initially based in Penang before relocating to Sungai Besi, saddling 392 winners in total from 4,530 runners.
Hamilton enjoyed a career-best season in 2023 when she finished second in the table with 74 winners, just two behind Richard Lines.
She saddled 35 winners the following year and even in the face of stiff competition from former Singapore trainers last year, she still managed a respectable 21 wins.
At Sungai Besi last Saturday, Hamilton chalked up her fifth win of the season with Hennu Stall, a recent transfer to her stable.
