Last season Champion Apprentice Jockey, Laercio De Souza, won the much envied Selangor Turf Club Apprentice School Ride of the Month Award for February 2020. L D Souza successfully steeredAud Dollar to an impressive win beating Affleck in a thrilling finish over 1200m in February this year at this course. The twenty seven year old, a product of the Jockey Club De Goias in Brazil began his career in 2015 and only rode there for eight months when he got the opportunity to ride in Malaysia. He is currently attached to nine times Champion Trainer Richard Lines and has displayed his true mettle in his riding through his uncanny skills in maneuvering his rides to the finishing post. The soft spoken rider who has so far ridden 127 winners has an elder brother Jose De Souza who is also a jockey riding in the local circuit. L D Souza received Cash Award of RM1,000 and a certificate of Achievement. The cash award was sponsored by the Selangor Trainers Association. Selangor Turf Club Apprentice School Board Chairman, Mr Clement Chew accompanied by the owner of AUD Dollar, Mr Lim, presented the award to L D Souza during races on 13 September 2020. The award is organised by the Apprentice School to motivate budding apprentice in perfecting their riding skills.
