Filial Dragon (5b.a.g I Am Invincible – Snitzerland by Snitzel)

Pipped on the line by newcomer Valois over 1200m last Sunday, Filial Dragon had no problem backing up six days later to win the Class 3 – 1400m handicap at Sungai Besi today with a switch of rider to comeback jockey Troy See.

Drawn widest in a field of 11, the I Am Invincible gelding gradually made his way to settle just one off the rails in fourth place passing the 800m, four lengths adrift of the pacesetter Oriental Halflamma.

Filial Dragon began to make up ground making the turn into the straight and was right on the heels of the leader Oriental Halflamma at the top of the straight. Shimi Go was staking his claim on their inside. Pacific Commander also loomed large on the outside with the rest of the field in a tight bunch behind them.

Filial Dragon ranged alongside Oriental Halflamma and Shimi Go at the 400m and the trio were in a line just ahead of Pacific Commander until the 200m when Filial Dragon began to find something extra.

Filial Dragon eventually kicked away to be a clear leader at the 100m. Oriental Halflamma and Shimi Go could do no more and it was Pacific Commander who finished best of the rest in the run home to take second placing. Shimi Go, however, held on was third.

Filial Dragon won twice over 1400m in Class in Singapore but raced initially in Class 4 when trainer Jason Ong brought him to Malaysia. He had a third and fourth in his first four runs before getting off the mark in the country when dropped to Class 4 last month.

Filial Dragon surges ahead of Shimi Go and Oriental Halflamma

Filial Dragon failed to see out the trip when he chased the pacemaker and faded to finish ninth to Pacific Padrino in the Chairman’s Trophy (1600m) early last month before his heart-breaking defeat by a nose last week.

“My horse (Filial Dragon) jumped good but there was a lot of pace my inside,” said Singaporean See, 31.

“From the wide barrier I could only try to find a spot on the inside. I was fortunate to do so just after the first bend.

“I was happy where I was. Then Wins One kind of drifted out on the track and gave a passage through.

“I held my horse as long as I could. He was travelling strongly the entire race and anyone could have won on him today. He was prepared well by Jason Ong and was in great condition.

“Lucky to be the one onboard.”

See went on to pick up a double – his second in two meetings after winning on Southern Speed The Wild Hero last Sunday – when he booted home Crown Dancing in the last race (Class 5B – 1500m).

“It’s been a long day and I do feel a bit tired,” said See.

“I am back after a lengthy hiatus but I should get fitter and stronger with more racing and hopefully winning more races.”

Singapore champion apprentice in 2018, See last rode in New South Wales, Australia on Jan 21, 2023, when he incurred the wrath of the stewards for his conduct. He had a mobile phone in his possession during a random search performed in the jockeys’ room at his last meeting at Murwillumbah.

See, who rode 12 winners in Australia, pleaded guilty to three charges – possession of a mobile phone in the jockeys’ room, refusal to obey a stewards’ direction and hindering stewards in the exercise of their powers and duties.

He was disqualified for 22-1/2 months, from Jan 29, 2023 to Dec 15, 2024. Before he went to Australia, he had been riding in Singapore since his debut in 2012. He also rode in six races for one third in Malaysia back in 2017.
