A brilliant day of racing with twelve races on the card, three features as part of the undercard to the headline race which was the Million Ringgit Selangor Mile and was won by Lucky Magic from the HY Cheng stable ridden by R Shafiq who also celebrated a top day with a treble as he steered Master Player and Cheerful Baby to victory earlier in the day. However, with Lucky Magic being the talking point for the day, the unsung hero of the day was undoubtedly Al Da Silva who rode four winners on the program.

The championship leading jockey had a brilliant day at the office starting off with Billy Elliot in race 5 for S Siva to beat the favourite Defeater by 3/4 of a length. He then returned to the winners box in race 7 aboard Pacific Master who had the gun run off the leaders back for most of the journey and was able to quicken rather easily along the inside to win by a length. His best ride of the day was undoubtedly Graphjet Express in the last of the feature races in race 10 for the A Plus Selangor Silver over 1300m. 

He came from well back in the field where the speed was on as Honesty set the fractions in front. Going past the 400m mark, Graphjet Express still had easily 6 lengths to make up on the leaders. He switched to the middle of the track with Thunderous and as soon as Da Silva changed the stick, Graphjet Express quickened instantly to win over the top. He closed off the meeting in the lucky last aboard Pacific Star in a nail biting finish with all of Top Field; Lim’s Puncak Jaya and Enticing challenging the finish.

All the spotlight will be on a brilliant win by Lucky Magic for the connections in the inaugural running of the Selangor Mile but take nothing away from a great day from Da Silva who unfortunately, never had his chance to win the Selangor Mile as he did not manage to get a ride despite being nearly 20 wins clear of his rivals in the jockey championship.

Racing returns to the Selangor Turf Club this Sunday on the 27th of July.
