Perth Racing, Western Australia has named a race to be run on Saturday 1st February 2020 at Ascot racecourse, in memory of Malaysian apprentice jockey Adrian Chan, who was killed in a race fall in 2004. Adrian was riding at Carnarvon race club in the state’s North West, when his mount ‘Dobs’ clipped the heels of another runner causing him to fall. A memorial service, attended by his family, fellow riders and SLTC representatives was conducted at Ascot racecourse. Having commenced trackwork riding for NZ trainer John Sargent at SLTC, Kuala Lumpur in 2000, Adrian embarked on a training program in WA and was apprenticed to Perth trainer Fred Kersley Jnr, who is best known as the trainer of dual Australian Horse of the Year, Northerly. The Selangor Turf Club Committee, staff and licensed personnel join Perth Racing in remembrance of Adrian Chan.
