Fashion, style, glamour, charity and triumph were the order of the day at the Sungei Besi Racecourse on Sunday, 4th December 2022 with the grand finale being the final Leg of the Club’s Triple Crown Series, the Group 1 Piala Emas Sultan Selangor race.

Whilst the undisputed heroes for the afternoon are no doubt the racing stars on the racetrack made up of thoroughbreds (horses) and the jockeys in their colourful racing silks, nevertheless the Sungei Besi racecourse became virtual catwalk for ladies dressed in their most stylish feminine outfits with matching hats.

The whole event of the day was given a befitting royal touch with the presence of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who graciously presented the prizes to the winning connections of the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor. Apprentice R Nuqman who rode the winner, TELLER, brought the Argentinean gelding home in the nick of time to snatch the coveted Gold Cup.

TELLER was owned by Ninetyfive Emperor Stable and was trained by Selangor Turf Club home based trainer S Y Lim. Dato’ Sri Chia who represented the Stable in receiving the Gold Cup from His Royal Highness, in a surprise move, announced to donate his winning money to charitable organizations. The crowd was overwhelmed by his kind gesture.

Prior to the prize presentation ceremony, under “A Heart for Charity” program, His Royal Highness presented donations to 15 charitable organizations. The program is part of the Club’s Corporate Social Responsibility Community Project benefiting charitable organization causes from Health, Old Folks, Support Group, Disease, Disabled, Orphanages and Women Group. The program was realized with the partnership of Berjaya Corporation Sdn Bhd and Sime Darby Auto Bavaria Sdn Bhd.

Besides the race card of 10 races, the afternoon also saw the launch of the Tan Sri Richard Cham (TSRC) Platinum Horse Entrepreneur Award at the Hest Bar Restaurant. The Award which was created in recognition of Entrepreneurship by UPBH Holdings Sdn Bhd would certainly be a great boost to all entrepreneur not forgetting the young Malaysians who wish to set foot into the world of horse racing.

In conjunction with the launch, UPBH Holdings Sdn Bhd sponsored the TSRC Platinum Horse Entrepreneur Cup. The race was won by RADETZKY MARSCH, owned by Kerlybob Racing Stable, trained by S Hamilton and ridden by Jockey M M Firdaus.

The Club also hosted the running of two other sponsored races, the Sungai Besi Autoworld Cup and the BetMakers Cup. The Sungai Besi Autoworld Cup is sponsored by Sungei Besi Autoworld, one of the largest used car management company in Klang Valley and known as “The Best Autocity in Malaysia” with more than 50 used car dealers operating under their belt offering thousands of cars to choose from.

Meanwhile, the BetMakers Cup was sponsored by BetMakers Global Racing Network who connects racing around the world to wagering operators everywhere and generating revenue for rights holders. The Club had entered into an agreement with BetMakers to simulcast its races to a new market segment in United Kingdom and Ireland and which at the same time bring Malaysian racing to international standards.

 “Today’s event proved that racecourse could be a unique place for people to socialize and get-together for a good cause. We are happy that the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor race meeting held after a lapse of two years, was a great success.
