Jockey S Ruzaini appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his ride on KITSUNE. In this regard, his attention was drawn specifically to whether or not he could have drawn his whip in his right hand after his horse showed inclination to lay out from the top of the straight. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that he had ridden KITSUNE on its last run and this horse has tendency to lay in badly. Therefore, prior to this race, he was conscious of this gelding’s behavior and sought to use the whip on his left hand in order to prevent to this horse from shifting in away from the whip if hanging in.  Jockey S Ruzaini further explained that on viewing the footage, KITSUNE was hanging in which resulted in him being cautious about drawing his whip in his right hand as there was other runners on his inside. Jockey S Ruzaini added that whilst he accepted he was shifting out away from the whip in by the concluding stages of the race, he was of the view that had he used his whip on his right hand, the movement of his mount would have been more severe and potentially prejudiced to other runners. The Panel noted his explanations and the matter will be drawn to the attention of the Trainer F Maynard who will be requested to take all reasonable measures to assist this horse tractability in races.
