KONG FU PANDA made amends for his last-start expensive defeat when he captured the Supreme B set-weight event over 1300m at Sungei Besi here today.

The Showcasing gelding was trying to make it five consecutive wins last May when he started odds-on favourite in a combined Classes 2 & 3 event over 1100m also on this track but could only finish fourth after being given every chance.

Today, KONG FU PANDA finished the job nicely after settling just off the pace by Ruzaini Supien who was riding him for the first time. The four-year-old won by 1 1/4 lengths.

It was the seventh win in 10 starts for the New Zealand bred who was purchased by trainer Tiang Kim Choi as an unraced two-year-old.

“I told the owners when KONG FU PANDA first arrived in the country that the horse has great potential,” said Tiang. “He didn’t cost that much at NZ$38,000 and I consider myself very lucky to have successfully bidded for him at the sales.

“There will be more wins coming from him and I believe that he could even pick up one of the big races in future.”

Jockey Ruzaini described him as very promising.

“He was being tested over 1300m for the first time today and I was worried that he might be too keen or over-race early. But he dispelled my worries to score a comfortable win,” said Ruzaini. “He is young and strong and I can’t wait to see him perform next start.”
