Jockey R Woodworth (MEGA CAPTAIN) appeared before the panel and was questioned regarding his decision to scrub his mount, MEGA CAPTAIN, when it appeared that there was insufficient room ahead of him and outside of him. The consequences of which appeared to be that he had to ease sharply and when racing onto the heels of TOMMY GUN. In this regard, he explained that he was of the view that RELEASE THE SPIRIT was one of his dangers and the leader of this race at that time, BANKER’S SEVENTYTWO had gotten too far clear of the field and TOMMY GUN which was positioned ahead of him, was not doing adequate job of keeping up with the pace, consequently he elected to ride for a bit of luck and hoped that a gap will open between TOMMY GUN and RELEASE THE SPIRIT (positioned on his outside) on the bend which would allow him to make an earlier run at  BANKER’S SEVENTYTWO which had raced clear of the field. However, he explained that upon attempting to do so, Jockey O Chavez (RELEASE THE SPIRIT) held his position alongside TOMMY GUN and he did not have the opportunity to obtain a clear run which resulted in him being awkwardly placed on heels and having to ease. The Panel noted the explanation.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J Kamaruddin, the rider of BANKER’S PRETTY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding BANKER’S PRETTY, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to NO MORE DELAY and BILLY ELLIOT at the 1100M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Kamaruddin’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) race day, to be deferred and served on 1 August 2026, and was also fined RM4000/- to be paid before his next race meeting, in default of which he shall serve an additional two (2) days suspension.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Passing the 1300M, SWIFT VICTORY was carried in by BANKER’S DIVIDEND, which shifted in sharply in reaction to a minor inward movement from MEROVINGIAN. Thereafter, MEROVINGIAN eased sharply when awkwardly placed on the outside of SWIFT VICTORY, which was forced to shift out in order to alleviate pressure on the inside runner, MEGA SKYE.

Jockey O Chavez (BANKER’S DIVIDEND) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding this incident, in addition to confirming the above statement so far as it related to him. He explained that he felt his horse raced erratically in the early part of the race, which resulted in his being unable to secure a more favourable position for BANKER’S DIVIDEND.

Jockey L Riordan (MEROVINGIAN) appeared before the Panel, was questioned regarding this incident, and confirmed the above statement so far as it related to him. The Panel was of the view that the blame could not be laid on an individual rider and therefore deemed this to be a racing incident.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC

INQUIRY INTO THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE STABLE INSPECTION CONDUCTED ON TRAINER HY CHENG’S STABLE ON THURSDAY, 11 JUNE 2026 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the above matter on Sunday, 19 July 2026 at the Selangor Turf Club, and evidence was taken from Trainer HY Cheng.

Trainer HY Cheng pleaded guilty to and the Stewards found him guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 33 (4) in that he was the trainer and person responsible for the administration of this stable when a number of prohibited items were seized by the Stewards during a search conducted on 11 June 2026.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Trainer HY Cheng’s mitigating factors and previous record. He was fined RM50,000/-. Trainer HY Cheng has the Right of Appeal against the severity of the sanction imposed.

Trainer HY Cheng’s attention was also drawn to the frequency regarding him appearing before the Panel in respect of similar offences and advised that should he appear before the Panel regarding a similar offence in future, more severe sanctions may follow.

RACE 3 (R0502) CLASS 4 – 1600M (LC A6), SATURDAY, 11 JULY 2026, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2026

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of FRENETIC, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding FRENETIC, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MILITARY AWARD and RED DRAGON at the 1200M.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) race day, to be deferred and served on 1 August 2026, and was also fined RM1500/- to be paid before his next race meeting, in default of which he shall serve an additional one (1)  day suspension.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
