When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of MAZE, Trainer K Ananthen explained that in his opinion, Jockey B Pinheiro has ridden a good race and the gelding running on Track II compared to its last start have contributed to the gelding’s improved performance today. The Panel noted his explanation, however, his attention was specifically drawn to the rules regarding in and out running.

Trainer WC Lim and Jockey M Lukman appeared before the Panel and were questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the MEGA GEMS. In this regard, prior to the race, the Stewards were advised that this gelding was to race with cover, however, in the running, this gelding led. The Panel questioned Trainer WC Lim who explained that he was happy with the ride under the circumstances, as this gelding had jumped better this start than his previous runs and with the number of runners located on his inside, he accepted that Jockey M Lukman made the decision to allow his mount to stride forward. However, he explained that in the running, this horse which has the tendency to be aggressive when shown day light, took hold a bit and raced to the lead.
Jockey M Lukman was questioned regarding the riding and he confirmed the explanation of Trainer WC Lim. The Panel noted the explanations of both parties, however, advised them that in the event that they were seeking cover, particularly with a horse that has this behavioral tendency, stronger measures needed to be taken in order to at least comply with the instructions.

On Saturday, 18 April 2026, Jockey R Shafiq (STORM CHASER) was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months. He subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence which was granted.
On Tuesday, 28 April 2026, Jockey R Shafiq (AI ROCKET) was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months, to be served consecutively with any other penalty, and also fined RM50,000/-. He subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence which was not granted.
In view of the above second sanction on 28 April 2026, Jockey R Shafiq’s suspension takes effect immediately on 28 April 2026 and to expire on 27 April 2027, both dates inclusive.
