Pacific Energy fully charged for Cup bid

Pacific Energy powered his way to his third win (from seven starts) in the country with a gutsy display in the Class 3 – 1300m handicap at Sungai Besi today, and trainer David Kok is looking at a bigger prize for the New Zealand gelding comes next month.
Drawn on the inside barrier, the Super Seth galloper enjoyed an economical trip in the trail behind pacemaker Paletas, and on the inside of Banker’s Amazing and Big Bad Mama early.
Passing the 300m mark, the two leaders Paletas and Banker’s Amazing drfited off the rails, presenting Pacific Energy with a dream run on the rails making the turn into the home straight.
Pacific Energy led into the straight from Banker’s Amazing and Paletas, with Kim Power closing in just ahead of a line of horses.
Pacific Energy shot clear at the 200m, then showed his tenacity in the closing stages to reel in Kim Power who was charging at the leader. Pacific Energy won by half a length, with a gap of 3-1/2 lengths to Banker’s Victory in third place.
Winner of two races at Caulfield as a three-year-old in Australia, Pacific Energy was also placed thrice in eight runs in total before coming over to Malaysia and his connections is now targetting the RM300,000 Tunku Gold Cup on Mar 15 for the four-year-old.
“With the win, I think he has earned enough points to get into the Tunku Gold Cup,” said Kok.
“I always have high hopes on this horse (Pacific Energy).
“Jockey (Jerlyn Seow) knows the horse and rode well.”
Seow has partnered Pacific Energy in all his three wins todate.
“He (Pacific Energy) was a bit slow to begin but was still on the pace, on the bit,” said Seow,
“He is a genuine horse and he went on to win well.”
Asked about her lucky break at the home bend, she said: “We (Paletas and Pacific Energy) were already clicking heels at the time, so I shouted super loud to (Mohd) Zaki (rider of Paletas). I think he also heard (the clicking of heels) so he opened up for me.”
