Pacific Energy bursts through for second win

Expect classy import Pacific Energy to swiftly progress up the ranks in the coming months.
The son of Super Seth proved too much to handle for his rivals as he carved out his second win in six local starts in the Visit Malaysia – Petronas Twin Tower Stakes (Class 3 – 1200m) at Sungai Besi today.
Racegoers have every reason to be optimistic on the prospect of the New Zealand gelding.
Placed once in two runs at two in Australia, Pacific Energy finished on board in all his six starts at three, winning twice at Caulfield and was placed once at Moonee Valley.
After finishing on the podium in all his first three runs in the country, Pacific Energy burst through to win a Class 3 handica over 1200m last month.
Installed favourite in his next start over 1300m eight days ago, Pacific Energy took the quick back-up in his strides when he fought gallantly to victory today.
Ridden for the fourth consecutive start by Jerlyn Seow, Pacific Energy was among a bunch of horses vying for the early lead. Eventually Emerald Lisi led narrowly from Fright with Pacific Energy a close third.
Fright headed Emerald Lisi turning out of the back straight with Pacific Energy in tow. Emerald Lisi was eased back to third, followed by Banker’s Emperor with a gap to Hasten.

Pacific Energy joined Fright making the turn into the straight and they led from Hasten, Banker’s Emperor, Emerald Lisi and Secret Wonder.
Pacific Energy beat off Fright at the 200m with Hasten, Emerald Lisi and Secret Wonder chasing the new leader.
Secret Wonder made a bold bid in the final 50m but Pacific Energy held on to win by a neck. Hasten fought on for third, 3/4 length away.
“He (Pacific Energy) is not an easy horse to ride,” said Seow.
“You need to know the horse well and ride with a soft hand. Too strong and he will throw his head up because he’s got a soft mouth.
“He’s keen but you cannot go too hard on him.”
“This horse has got ability and keeps on improving,” said trainer David Kok who has started the new season well with three winners so far.
“Jerlyn rode a patient race and that was the deciding factor.”
