Jockey C Leck appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his riding of INFINITY SPIRIT. In this regard, he explained that his attention was specifically drawn to whether it was possible for him to be more proactive from the jump. Jockey C Leck explained that it was his mount’s pattern of racing to be in a rearward position and upon identifying that the pace in the early stages was really quick and there was a prospect of him becoming detached, he did scrub his mount to keep pace with the field from the 1100M. The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey C Leck, however, will continue to monitor his techniques and tactics adopted in similar situation going forward.

In this regard, he explained that he was instructed to be in handy position from the start, however, the gelding showed more speed than the other runners in the field, therefore he elected to seize the opportunity to lead the race. His explanation was noted.

GENERAL REPORT(S) – SLTC
RACE 9 (R0573) CLASS 3 – 1020M (Track II), SUNDAY, 17 AUGUST 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2025
The Stewards, on Sunday, 24 August 2025 at SLTC, concluded a review into the running and handling of HASTEN. Evidence was taken from Jockey Z Khairil, the rider of HASTEN.
After reviewing the films of the incident and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards decided to take no further action, however, highlighted the inconsistency of his riding and advised him that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar occurrence in future, more severe sanctions may follow.
RACE 12 (R0576) CLASS 5A – 1800M (LC C4), SUNDAY, 17 AUGUST 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2025
Jockey AL Da Silva (EVER RELIABLE) appeared before the Panel and was questioned regarding his wide position in the race. In this regard, he explained that he had never intended to race as wide as he did, however, upon jumping, he found himself in a midfield position, and attempted to restrain the gelding to a position closer to the rail, however at that juncture, another horse which was racing keenly on his inside, raced alongside him which resulted in his mount reacting and him being unable to restrain EVER RELIABLE without causing more significant prejudice to the horse. Accordingly, he held his ground in the running, however, this gelding had nothing to come in the straight. The Panel noted the explanation of Jockey AL Da Silva which was supported by the footage of the race.
RACE 2 (R0566) CLASS 5A – 1275M (Track II), SUNDAY, 17 AUGUST 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2025
The Stewards, on Sunday, 24 August 2025 at SLTC, concluded a review into the running and handling of THUNDER HERO. Evidence was taken from App H Haikal, the rider of THUNDER HERO.
After reviewing the films of the incident and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards decided to take no further action, however, highlighted the inconsistency of his riding and advised him that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar occurrence in future, more severe sanctions may follow.
RACE 6 (R0570) CLASS 4B – 1150M (Track II), SUNDAY, 17 AUGUST 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2025
The Stewards, on Sunday, 24 August 2025 at SLTC, concluded a review into the running and handling of TOP FIELD. Evidence was taken from Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of TOP FIELD.
After reviewing the films of the incident and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards decided to take no further action, however, highlighted the inconsistency of his riding and advised him that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar occurrence in future, more severe sanctions may follow.
RACE 8 (R0572) CLASS 4B – 1150M (Track II), SUNDAY, 17 AUGUST 2025, SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2025
The Stewards, on Sunday, 24 August 2025 at SLTC, concluded a review into the running and handling of CHEERFUL BABY. Evidence was taken from Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of CHEERFUL BABY.
After reviewing the films of the incident and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards decided to take no further action, however, highlighted the inconsistency of his riding and advised him that should he appear before the Board regarding a similar occurrence in future, more severe sanctions may follow.
INQUIRY CONCERNING URINE SAMPLE CODED “J-5155” WHICH WAS TAKEN ON SATURDAY, 9 AUGUST 2025 AT THE SELANGOR TURF CLUB AUGUST MEETING 2025, WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN “ORPHENADRINE”, WHICH IS A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE IN TERMS OF THE MRA RULES
The Stewards concluded an inquiry on Thursday, 21 August 2025 at the Selangor Turf Club, into the above matter. Evidence was taken from Jockey M Zaki, from whom the sample was taken.
Jockey M Zaki pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) as he provided a sample at the Selangor Turf Club on 9 August 2025 which sample, upon analysis, was found to contain the prohibited substance, “Orphenadrine”.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey M Zaki’s guilty plea, the nature of the substance, mitigating factors, and his submissions on penalty. Jockey M Zaki was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month, backdated from 15 August 2025 and to expire on 14 September 2025, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
Additionally, Jockey M Zaki was advised that he would be required to provide a clearing sample prior to commencing to ride in trackwork/races at the Club.
