The daughter of Gingerbread Man had a win and three placings in five starts in Australia before moving to Singapore where she began her campaign with three unbeaten runs.

Thereafter, GINGERELLA raced against the best at Kranji  and was creditable fifth in the Lion City Cup in 2019. She also ran in the Fortune Bowl the following year, as well as a second attempt at the Lion City Cup, after which she was dispatched to Kuala Lumpur to join trainer Teh Ming Wan.

In her last start, she found one to beat in XENA in a Metro A event over 1200m two months ago.

As a consequence of that results, XENA started odds-on favourite in today’s Metro A set-weight event over 1100m.

But GINGERELLA, ridden for the first time by apprentice Fikri Ismail, literally stole a run on her rivals. She jumped best and immediately went to the front and set a brisk pace.

Half way down the home stretch, she kicked clear and was three lengths clear of the field. She went the line 1 3/4 lengths ahead of the WAR DRAGON with WHITE HOOF BIRD in third spot. XENA could not reproduce her last start form and was well a beaten fourth.

Fikri, meanwhile, was over the moon. “It’s my first trophy win,” said the rookie apprentice who has five wins this year. “I feel happy and blessed that the trainer and owner trusted me with this ride as I am still new in the game.”

“I would like also to thank the Selangor Turf Club Apprentice School for educating and guiding me. I hope to get more rides in the future as I gain more experience.”
