Selangor Turf Club Sees Overwhelming Response for the 2026 Selangor Mile
Kuala Lumpur, June 26, 2026
The Selangor Turf Club is thrilled to announce an overwhelming response for the highly anticipated 2026 Selangor Mile. As the crown jewel of the Malaysian racing calendar, this prestigious event for four-year-olds has attracted an impressive 38 nominations from Selangor Turf Club’s top trainers and owners, underscoring the enduring popularity and competitive spirit of the race.
With a substantial prize pool of *RM1,000,000* on the line, the Selangor Mile continues to hold its title as the richest four-year-old race in Malaysian racing history. Scheduled for *Sunday, July 26, 2026*, the race will see the finest equine talent battle for supremacy over the 1600-meter course at the Selangor Turf Club.
Will Fortune Tree bear fruits in Selangor Mile?
This year’s Tunku Gold Cup (1200m) winner Fortune Tree, who takes pride of place in the 4YO Sprint Championship (1200m) at Sungai Besi tomorrow, also heads a list of 39 horses nominated for the RM1mil Selangor Mile (1600m) to be run on July 26.
The Ardrossan galloper – then trained by Richard Lim – sprang a mild upset in the Tunku Gold Cup with a thrilling win over Duma (by a nose) and Pacific Energy (a further neck back). It was his fifth win in 10 starts in the country.
The trio will renew rivalry in the 4YO Sprint Championship tomorrow before clashing again in the Selangor Mile.
Fortune Tree had been racing and winning over longer trips than 1200m and the Tunku Gold Cup came as a bit of a surprise.
The Australian gelding was subsequently transferred to HY Cheng and has not raced since. Whatever the results for him tomorrow, he will be fitter for the outing.
Duma, who has performed consistently over varying distances with five wins to his name, will be one of the top picks in the Selangor Mile regardless of his results tomorrow.
Pacific Energy has been very consistent since the start of his local campaign late last year. After the Tunku Gold Cup, the Super Seth galloper has gone on to win to pick up one win, a second and a third in as many starts.
But the New Zealand gelding has not been tested beyond 1300m.
The results of the 4YO Sprint Championship tomorrow might also shed some light as to where the some of the horses nominated for the Selangor Mile stand.
Banker’s Happy, Fright, Campionessa, Cheval Pegasus, Trees Of Valinor, Navarre and Jinling Starblitz are amongst those nonimated.
Since the Tunku Gold Cup in March, several of Banker’s Stable-owned horses have come to the forefront in the chase for Selangor Mile glory.
Banker’s Smile has won his last three starts (from six apperances) over 1400m and is the second highest rated entry at 79 points.
Banker’s Kingdom (78) has won three of his eight starts over 1400m and 1600m.
Banker’s Honor (75) won three of his five runs from 1600m to 2000m.
Banker’s Happy (74) has raced just thrice for two wins at 1400m and 1500m.
Banker’s Victory (70) has won two of his seven outings, over 1500m and 1600m.
Banker’s Beautiful (67) notched three wins at 1300m and 1600m from 12 runs to date.
The six Banker’s Stable horses are amongst the top 16 in the ratings presently.
Almost assured of their places in July are the Lawson Moy-trained Irish Goodbye and Choice Is Mine.
Besides Fortune Tree, Cheng will be hoping to have a second runner in AI Rocket and perhaps a third in Storm Titan.
This year’s Perak Derby (2000m) winner Guru Fight, the well-performed Campionessa and Trees Of Valinor, despite their proven record, will be seeking to earn enough points in the coming weeks to make the cut on July 26.
The final runners for the Selangor Mile will be announced on July 17, with the barrier draw held on July 21.
The record interest in the 2026 edition follows a landmark 2025 season, where the Club successfully boosted its total prize pool to RM31.0 million, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to elevating the standard and profile of Malaysian horse racing on the global stage. The Selangor Mile remains central to this vision, acting as a beacon of excellence that supports owners, trainers, and jockeys alike.
