Trainer Tan Soo Beng’s last start winner Sangkuriang looks set for a back to back win in the inaugural running of the Mydora Cup over 1800m in Race 8 on Sunday. Having raced only three times, the four-year-old by Anacheeva greeted the judges in his last outing with jockey R. Shafiq on board beating Tarzan by 1 1/4 lengths over 1600m on a yielding track.

With Shafiq pursuing new opportunities in New Zealand, Sangkuriang will be ridden by visiting Turkish jockey Selim Ipek.  The 31 year old has ridden more than 200 winners in Turkey and is having his first rides in Malaysia this weekend. Sangkuriang will be jumping from gate 2 and looks hard to beat.

The challengers would be Charles Leck trained bottom weight Nova Power with jockey S Ruzaini aboard. The five year old gelding by Nicconi showed promise in his last outing, beating Sharon’s Star over 1400m. Based on that outing Nova Power is seen with a good chance if he handles the longer trip of 1800m. Trainer Frank Maynard’s Fast Rich should also have a say. The six-year-old by Iffraaj was beaten in the run home by the improving Black Thorn last Saturday over 1400m. With jockey S Sandana once again taking the mount, Fast Rich stands a chance to be in the top three finish.
