Platinum Emperor is Back
12 July 2025, Kuala Lumpur
Lightly raced since moving from Macau to Malaysia, Platinum Emperor was having his first run back from a spell today, after finishing third in the Tunku Gold Cup, and he bounced back to winning wins with a very impressive win in the Mitavite Asia Cup over 1400m.
Prior to this win, he only had the two previous starts where he won on his local debut in February where he left the field for good and won going away by 2 lengths beating some of Malaysia’s top rated horses. He then followed up in March where he came from a hopeless position in the G1 Tunku Gold Cup to finish 3rd behind Noah Khan and Antipodean. Almost four months later, straight into a 1400m and although tested, one can easily see there’s still more to come from him.

Ridden by Marc Lerner for Ricky Choi, Lerner settled him back midfield around the turn and started to shake him up at the 600m mark and made his run to the outside of the field. As soon as it looked like he was going to take over the lead rather easily, Cavalry – the former graded performer in Singapore – gave Platinum Emperor a good challenge and wouldn’t go away. However, Platinum Emperor was too good on the day and rewarded the Platinum Racing Stables with another feature winner. The connections were quite upbeat about the horses ability with Lerner and Choi agreeing he’ll be able to step up in trip and take on the bigger races later in the year.
The countdown to the Selangor Mile is well underway with just a week to go until the RM 1,000,000 race takes place next week Sunday on the 20th of July with the barrier draw taking place on Tuesday the 15th of July at the Selangor Turf Club.
