Our Jet Too Good On Local Debut
24 August 2025, Kuala Lumpur
Racing took place at the Selangor Turf Club with 12 races on the card and a mix of favourites, upsets and a few doubles for owners; trainers and jockeys. Of the winners on the day, the most impressive was probably Our Jet who was first up in the country since moving across from Western Australia.

With strong form to his name in Australia in Belmont; Pinjarra and Ascot, he looked hard to beat on paper but there was the query with the widest barrier to overcome. H Haikal used his 3kg claim to full use as he jumped and sent his mount to the lead and with the claim, he was going to be hard to catch. It was a well calculated ride by Haikal for the HY Cheng stable and despite riding one of the shorter priced horses of the day, he also ended up riding one of the bigger outsiders on the card with I’m Back for the J Leck stable. Although he didn’t initially get to the front as easy as he did with Our Jet, but he was able to muster some speed on I’m Back who worked up to pick up the lead into the turn and from there he never looked back as the rest of the field failed to catch him.

There were two other jockeys that rode a double including B Pinheiro who rode Mochi in the first for W Lim and followed up with Top Show in the penultimate for L Moy. The third jockey to ride a double was KC Wong who did so in quick succession and both wins in the silks of Legacy Power Racing. The first of his double was aboard Navy Seals for the F Maynard stable in race 9 and followed up with Ocean Jupiter in the next race for K Ananthen. From the training ranks, only one trainer had more than one winner and that was F Maynard with Navy Seals and Flying Success in race 6 under T See.
The excitement is certainly building as we are just one week away from Merdeka Cup day which takes place next Sunday on the 31st of August where a decent crowd is expected to be in attendance celebrating Merdeka Day at the Selangor Turf Club.
