KUALA LUMPUR:  Apr 9, 2022

LONELY BOY bounced back from a no-show over 1600m last start — his first attempt over the mile — to capture the Combined Class 2 & 3 event over 1200m at Sungei Besi here today.

And the English gelding did it with a punishing 60.5kg on his back, prompting his trainer Mohamed Sukri to declare the horse as “one of the the best horses I have trained”.

Sukri’s affection for the son of Lethal Force is understandable.

LONELY BOY came to Malaysia after notching one win and four placings in six starts as a juvenile in England and was an immediate hit here, scoring two runaway wins with Sukri.

He was then quickly dispatched to Singapore where he finished second first-up but failed in his next two attempts.

“We thought he had a better future down in Singapore, but after he failed to get more opportunities to win, the owners decided to send him back to me”, said Sukri. “It has taken LONELY BOY time to get his form back.”

After four unplaced starts runs back in the country (two under AB Abdullah, LONELY BOY struck form again with three consecutive runaway wins.

His dismal run over the mile last start was quickly forgiven when LONELY BOY galloped back to the winner’s circle today.

“He really surprised me with such a big weight on his back,” said Sukri. “All his six wins are with me.”

Jockey Yudanyl Aify, who scored once on him earlier this year, said: “He’s in his top form today and just loves the track.”
