Trainer Shane Edwards’s Truson put up a tip top performance to win the Selangor Gold Cup for top class runners over 1600m in Race 6 on Sunday. The eight-year-old by Al Maher was well handled by in form Brazilian Jockey Bernando Pinheiro who was tucked in the midfield spot most of the journey and came with a brilliant run at the closing stages of the race to beat D’Great Timing in a convincing manner. Judging from the win, Truson should give another bold showing in the final leg of the Triple Crown Series – The Piala Emas Sultan Selangor over the grueling 2000m on 29 September this year.
Trainer SY Lim’s El Tordillo should tune into a top class sprinter after a scantaling victory in Race 4. The six-year-old by Dalghar was tucked in midfield at the early part of the 1200m event and showed a good turn of speed in the run home to pip Premium Stars at the shadows of the winning post.
Trainer Frank Maynard’s Calvados broke the ice in fine fashion in Race 7 on Sunday. The five-year-old by Iffraaj was well ridden by Jockey Jackson Low who was kept well in striking distance and drew the challenge in the closing stages of the race to beat Congratu. More wins in store.
Trainer AB Abdullah’s AlJawhra ridden by R Shafiq, should be heading for better company judging from the victory in the Class 4 (B) event over 1200m in Race 6 on Saturday. The four-year-old by Reward Of Effort showed early pace and just clinched the lead in the run home to win easily.
