KUALA LUMPUR:  Apr 10, 2023

Beaten for the first time in Malaysia last week, GOLDEN CHAMP quickly bounced back to score an easy win in the Class 3 – 1200m handicap at Sungei Besi here today.

Apprentice Nuqman Faris Rozi let the Brazilian entire settled in a handy third position in the six-horse field before challenging the pacemaker D’GREAT JOURNEY at the 250m.

GOLDEN CHAMP raced past the leader with ease shortly after and went on to win as he liked by 1 3/4 lengths.

It’s now four wins from five outings in the country for GOLDEN CHAMP.

Much was expected of him when he arrived in Singapore after having won three of four runs in Uruguay when racing as Pissarro.

He was named Sing Our Song but after failing to show up in his first four runs at Kranji, he was renamed GOLDEN CHAMP.

But his only shining moment in 11 subsequent starts was a win in Class 5 in his penultimate run at Kranji.

Sent over to trainer Tiang Kim Choi in Kuala Lumpur last November, GOLDEN CHAMP has undergone a total transformation.

“He’s a very honest horse,” said Nuqman. “I have now ridden him four times for four wins. It wasn’t a strong field today and I knew I had the race won from a long way out.”

“GOLDEN CHAMP possesses great fighting spirit,” said Tiang. “He still has plenty of room for improvement.”
