From Stablehand to the Trainer’s Rank: The Rise of Hamsha Dustin Aloysius
24 June , 2025
In the heart of Southeast Asia’s racing circuit, where competition is fierce and reputations are hard-earned, one name is beginning to command quiet respect: Hamsha Dustin Aloysius. At 40, the Singaporean horseman’s career is a testament to persistence, humility, and an unwavering dedication to the sport he loves.
Aloysius’s journey began on 25 June 2014, not with pomp and flair, but with buckets, bridles, and early mornings. Employed as a Syce under the legendary Trainer Laurie Laxon at the Singapore Turf Club, his days were filled with the humbling rhythm of stable life—hands in the hay, eyes on the horse, heart at the work.
Those who’ve worked with him described him as a man who listens more than he speaks, but when he speaks, people tend to listen. After a transfer to Trainer D.L. Freedman’s yard in 2017, Aloysius’s work ethic continued to shine. That dedication didn’t go unnoticed. By August 2018, the Malaysian Racing Association (MRA) recognized his growth and officially promoted him to Stable Supervisor—a milestone that marked the start of a new chapter.
With two formative years alongside Trainer Mark Walker, Aloysius continued refining his instincts—not just about horses, but about people, teamwork, and leadership. That foundation paved the way for his next step: joining Trainer Donna Logan’s stable in January 2022. Within five months, he secured his B-Grade Trainer Licence. The speed of his certification was impressive, but not surprising to those who had seen him in action.
“He has this quiet command about him,” one former colleague shared. “Not flashy, just focused. Horses trust him. People do too.”
After two solid years at Logan’s side, Aloysius made his next bold move—crossing the Causeway to join Trainer V Sivan’s team at the Selangor Turf Club in November 2023. As Assistant Trainer, he has stepped into a larger spotlight, guiding strategy, supervising operations, and mentoring younger staff with the same steadiness that defined his early years.
Now with over a decade in the industry—and three of those years in an Assistant Trainer role—Aloysius stands not just as a seasoned professional, but as a symbol of quiet resilience. While others chase overnight success, he built his career the long way: one morning trot, one learned lesson, one earned opportunity at a time
He was granted a professional trainer license by MRA recently and was subsequently granted stabling facilities by Selangor Turf Club, he has a team of 19 horses and has 4 runners entered for this weekend races.
Selangor Turf Club wishes him all the best
