KUALA LUMPUR:  Oct 23, 2022

Already a proven winner in Ireland and Singapore, CHEVAL RAPIDE (French for Fast Horse) is now living up to his name in Malaysia with three wins in four starts in the country.

Ridden by Clyde Leck, the Irish horse by Exceed And Excel ran his rivals off their feet to bag the combined Classes 2 & 3 event over 1400m at Sungei Besi here today, finishing 6 1/4 lengths ahead of the rest.

Today’s win came right on the heels of his very impressive last week when he outclassed his Class 3 rivals to win by 4 1/4 lengths in a course record time of 1 min. 12.50 secs. on the long course.

“He won so easily today,” said trainer Simon Dunderdale.

“Last week, he broke the track record and this week he was up in class and still won by more than six lengths. We look forward to seeing him in the Sports Toto (Supreme Challenge Cup) in a month’s time.”

“Firstly, I would like to thank Team Cheval Stable and trainer Simon Dunderdale for giving me a brilliant ride,” said apprentice Clyde Leck who also rode CHEVAL RAPIDE last week.

“I was very pleased with how CHEVAL RAPIDE ran today. From the last start, when he finished so strongly to the line (over 1250m), I knew he needed further distance to show his class. He did prove himself a very difficult horse to beat with the extra distance today. I am excited to see how he will fare next against tougher opponents and I will be grateful to be given a chance to ride him again.”

Winner of two races in Ireland, the son of Exceed And Excel won six races in Singapore including a hattrick in 2020.

After a run of ‘outs’ in the second half of last year, the eight-year-old was sent up north to Dunderdale.

His Malaysian debut was delayed for several months as he recovered from a suspensory injury but is now better than ever in his career.
