Banker’s Kingdom aims to rule Selangor Mile

Banker’s Kingdom threw his name in the hat for a crack at the RM1mil Selangor Mile (1600m) next month with an impressive win in the Supreme B event over 1400m at Sungai Besi today.
The Brazen Beau galloper appears to have struck his best form with just five weeks to go before the big race on Jul 26.
The Australian gelding was a late bloomer Down Under, starting nine times at three and managed to win two of his last three starts before being sold at an online sale.
Banker’s Kingdom began his local campaign with two unplaced runs but shocked punters with a huge payout when winning in Class 4 in his third start.
After a third to Banker’s Beautiful, he was sent to Ipoh to contest a Cosmo C event over 1600m and returned with flying colours, defeating the Perak Derb runner-up Winning Stride.
Back at Sungai Besi, Banker’s Kingdom had two good showings (a fourth and a second) before taking on some big names in the set-weight event today.
Banker’s Kingdom, ridden for the first time by Bernado Pinheiro, led the field early but when Mega Gems surged to the front at thr 1000m, Pinheiro was happy to sit behind the pace in second spot.
Banker’s Kingdom ranged alongside Mega Gems at the top of the straight and pulled away to a clear lead at the 400m.
Thunderous gave chase the rest of the way but Banker’s Kingdom was simply too strong, winning by 2-3/4 lengths.
“I was glad to be on board this horse (Banker’s Kingdom). He showed to be a smart and good horse, a horse with a future” said Pinheiro.
“He had a lot speed from the gate and everything went well. But setting the pace was not in my favour so when a horse (Mega Gems) made a run I was happy to take a sit and let him (Banker’s Kingdom) take a breather.
“I galloped him during week and I knew he was in good form so I was confident.
“When I asked him for an effort in the straight the horse just ran home for me.”
Banker’s Kingdom was the third leg of a splendid treble for Pinheiro.
The Brazilian opened accounts with Maze in the Class 5A – 1275m sprint on the No. 2 track, then took Zed Or Alive to the gelding’s maiden win in 16 starts in the country in the Class 5A – 1800m handicap.
