STEWARDS’ REPORT – PERAK APRIL MEETING 2022

DAY 3, SATURDAY – 30th APRIL 2022

RACE 2 (R518)        CLASS 5(A) – 1200m (lc)      VENUS HANDICAP 

The Panel of Stewards opened an Inquiry into the riding of LOOKS GOOD.   Evidence was taken from Jockey C Goon, the rider of LOOKS GOOD and after reviewing the videos, he was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards, in that he had failed to make sufficient effort to ride to his instructions which were to be handy.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into account Jockey C Goon’s disciplinary record and mitigating factors.   He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months, effective from Monday, 2nd May 2022 and to expire on Monday, 1st August 2022, both dates inclusive.    He was advised of his right of appeal (5.36pm).


RACE 4 (R520)         CLASS 5 (B) -1600m (lc)      MERCURY HANDICAP 

The Panel of Stewards opened an Inquiry into the riding of SECOND CHANCE.  Evidence was taken from App S Hafis, the rider of SECOND CHANCE in the presence of his employing trainer, Trainer I.Ismadi and Trainer K Coetzee, the trainer of SECOND CHANCE.   After reviewing the video, App S Hafis pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards, in that he had failed to ride with sufficient vigour and determination in the straight.

In assessing the penalty, the Panel of Stewards took into account App S Hafis’s disciplinary record and mitigating factors.   App S Hafis was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) months effective from Monday, 2nd May 2022 and to expire on Monday, 1st August 2022, both dates inclusive.   He was advised of his right of appeal (6.50pm).


RACE 5 (R521)         CLASS 5(B) – 1200m (sc)     JUPITER HANDICAP  

Approaching the 1000M-mark, ASIA (App WW Cheah) shifted in, carrying NOVA PHOENIX (SU Lim) inwards, resulting in ONCE A THIEF (App SN Shiva) being crowded, clipping heels and having to check.  In this incident, App SN Shiva became unbalanced and was dislodged.  As a result, POLO TYCOON which was following, had to take evasive action.   At a subsequent inquiry, App WW Cheah, the rider of ASIA in the presence of his acting master, Assistant Trainer Jodie Ward, was found guilty to a charge for reckless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(i).  He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one (1) month.  Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Panel of Stewards deferred the commencement of App WW Cheah’s suspension to take effect from Monday, 9th May 2022 and to expire on Wednesday, 8th June 2022.  He was informed of his right of appeal (7.20pm


STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

PENANG MAY MEETING 2022  

1ST DAY, SUNDAY, 1ST MAY 2022

RACE 1 (R525) CLASS 5(B) – 1300M 

At the conclusion of an Inquiry into the running and handling of HEART FEELING and after taking evidence from Jockey R Narendran and Trainer T Asogan, the rider and trainer of HEART FEELING respectively and reviewing the video, Jockey R Narendran pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The details of the charge were that he failed to give sufficient rein to HEART FEELING on jumping, resulting in the mare being unable to race to its best advantage.   

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey R Narendran’s guilty plea, his riding record and mitigating factors.  Jockey R Narendran was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months effective from Monday, 2nd May 2022 and to expire on Tuesday, 1st November 2022, both days inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (5.10pm).  


RACE 3 (R527) CLASS 5(A) – 1300M 

At the conclusion of an Inquiry into the running and handling of MODRIC and after taking evidence from App YY Oon in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer B Ng and Trainer S Hamilton, the trainer of MODRIC and after reviewing the video, App YY Oon pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.  The details of the charge were that he failed to give sufficient rein to MODRIC on jumping, resulting in him being unable to ride MODRIC to instructions which were to be handy.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into account App YY Oon’s guilty plea, his riding record and mitigating factors.  App YY Oon was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months effective from Monday, 2nd May 2022 and to expire on Tuesday, 1st November 2022, both days inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (6.25pm).  


RACE 5 (R529) CLASS 4(A) – 1100M  

Approaching the 800M-mark, WILLOW SPRINGS shifted inwards, carrying CITY OF DREAM (KC Tham) inwards, resulting in BIG BUS (App N Nuqman) becoming crowded and having to check.  At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey S Salee pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) and he was suspended for two (2) race days with effect from Monday, 2nd May 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 8th May 2022, both days inclusive.  He was informed of his Right of Appeal (4.10pm).
