For the first time, in the history of Malaysian races, two local Clubs, Penang Turf Club and Selangor Turf Club would be hosting concurrent race meeting in a day on Sunday, 19 July 2020.

In view of the cancellation of the scheduled Singapore Turf Club races on Sunday, both Penang and Selangor Turf Clubs in collective effort, have agreed to hold races on the same day to bring a galore of racing entertainment to racing fans after a break of four months due to Covid-19.

Concurrent races from racing clubs in the same country is nothing new in the world of horse racing. Prominent racing clubs around the world such as in Japan and Korea hold concurrent races on a same day, whereby races are scheduled to run on the same afternoon and live telecast to other centres and Clubs around the world.

Emulating the same concurrent racing system practised around the world, both Penang Turf Club and Selangor Turf Club promise to present a great treat to racing fans on this Sunday, providing them with an opportunity to view a total of 18 local races in day, a card of 8 races from Penang Turf Club and a card of 10 races from Selangor Turf Club. The first race in Selangor would begin at 1.15pm while first race in Penang would commence at 2.00pm.

Apart from this, racing fans can look forward to an entertaining and competitive race day as 11 races from Australia and 6 races from Macau Jockey Club would also be live telecast, bringing the total number of races for the day to 35.

“The last four months have posed some serious challenges for the Racing Industry at Selangor Turf Club, as we, like the rest of the world, combated the COVID 19 pandemic”.

“The Ministry of Finance has granted permission for us to recommence horse racing in Malaysia and to this end, we must ensure everyone’s safety with measures such as wearing a mask and practicing social distancing”, said the Chairman of Selangor Turf Club, Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham Hak Lim in welcoming back racing fans to the Club.

The Club has taken serious measures in meeting with the SOP set by the Government to ensure a safer environment for everyone attending the races.
