On inquiry, App A Suriya (NORTHERN KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip shortly after the start thereby allowing it to shift in, crowding M ELEVEN onto ASIAN TIGER and LET’S COME ON BABY.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App A Suriya’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 28 August 2023 and to expire on 9 September 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

(AK Lim) Rider advised that his whip use bordered on excessive in terms of failing to allow his mount to respond.
4 MISE EN GARDE
(App WW Cheah) Carried inwards, then held tight when racing fiercely between the 900M and near the 700M, had to be restrained, thereby losing its position. Vet Inspection: Lame off fore – 1000M/vet (2 weeks embargo)

(App M Seelan) Vet inspection: Heel-bulb injury off hind.
6 RAINBOW FISH
(App S Shazmin) Restrained when held tight near the 775M.

(S Ruzaini) Raced fiercely in the early stages and had to be restrained off heels running to the 800M.

(App I Fikri) Inclined to lay inwards near the 1000M and was then crowded, thereby tightening runners. Vet inspection: Lame near fore – 1000M/vet (2 weeks embargo)

(HS Gill) Crossed from its outside stall and caused runner to steady near the 1100M. Rider warned to exercise greater caution.

(Z Khairil) Had to be restrained near the 1025M and was then taken wide.

(AM Aizat) Shifted in, crowding runner near the 1000M and then had to steady to avoid heels. Rider warned to exercise greater caution.
8 QIJI AUSTON
(App T Ammar) Bumped shortly after the start, losing its forward position. Crowded approaching the winning post.
10 MARTIN VJ
(S Hafis) Slow into stride. Inclined to lay inwards in the straight and shifted in markedly, struck with the whip with the rider having to stop and straighten on several occasions. Crowded runner near the winning post.

RACE 4 (R0886) Class 5A – 1175M (Track II)
1 DRAGON SANDS
(App I Fikri) Proved difficult to load. In light of this, the gelding will be required to pass 1 Starting Stall test before being declared to race again. Badly blocked when attempting a run near the 200M and had to be restrained, eventually obtained a clear run in the final 100M.
2 SKYSCRAPER
(O Chavez) Had to be taken outwards when attempting a run near the 350M.
3 XIONG FONG
(AK Lim) Bumped heavily at the start.
5 GUILTY PLEASURES
(App A Suriya) Slow into stride. Dipped near the 1000M. Obliged to race wide in the middle stages.
7 CAORUNN
(App R Nuqman) Veered outwards at the start, bumping runner. Raced wide in the middle stages. Inclined to lay inwards over the final 200M. Vet inspection: No significant finding.

(S Ruzaini) Rider questioned as to the reason he did not take a run which presented itself at about the 250M. He advised that the gelding was racing greenly prior to this and he had taken it outwards in an endeavour to obtain a clear passage. Vet inspection: Lame off fore – 1000M/vet (2 weeks embargo)

(Z Khairil) Fly-jumped at the start and was subsequently slow into stride, then raced greenly. Rider (Dead heat 4th) was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out fully to the finish.

(App I Fikri) Rider’s whip became untangled in the horse’s mane near the 350M.

RACE 9 (R0891) Metro A – 1275M (Track II)
2 KIRIN
(App I Fikri) Tended to hang out at the turn near the 700M. Vet inspection: Lame off fore. In light of its soundness history, Trainer BT Lim was advised that the gelding will not be permitted to race for a period of 1 month and will be required to undergo a full veterinary examination prior to passing a 1000M/vet test before being declared to race again.

(Z Khairil) Whilst being loaded, rider struck his left foot at the stalls. After being examined by the Club Doctor, he was declared unfit to ride for the remainder of the race today. The gelding was subsequently withdrawn at 4:49pm. This necessitated a delay of several minutes.

(S Hafis) Sitting back when the start was effected, thereby losing ground. Inclined to lay outwards throughout running.

(S Ruzaini) Raced wide at the turn out of the straight and then tended to race fiercely in the middle stages.
9 ROYALTY’S WISH
(App A Suriya) Raced wide in the middle stages. Had to be steadied when crossed near the 200M. Returned having cast near fore plate.
Jockey O Chavez (FAMOUS NAME) was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to seek the Stewards’ permission to ride 1/2kg overweight.
