App A Nazir (AMAZING CHOICE), in the presence of his Employing Trainer, F Maynard, was reprimanded for failing to report an incident to the Stewards.
On inquiry, Jockey V Espindola (ANOTHER SHOW) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he crowded runners on his inside causing FARDUS to be steadied and RACE FOR FAME to check near the 700M.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey V Espindola’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 12 June 2023 and to expire on 18 June 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

(S Ruzaini) Crowded shortly after the start, then commenced to race fiercely and near the 1100M, was taken wide, then raced wide until straightening. Vet inspection: No significant finding.

(J Low) Hung outwards at the turn near the 1000M and inclined to lay outwards in the straight.
6 BEIJING STAR
(M Ewe) Rider fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(i) for using my whip forward of the shoulder.

(V Espindola) Had to be restrained to avoid the heels of runner which drifted out. Laid inwards in the straight, crowding runner at the 200M.

Jockey Y Aify (STORM TO WIN) was examined by the Club Doctor who stood him down from his riding engagements for the remainder of the races today.

(S Saddam) Ridden wide throughout. Rider advised that he should make a more positive effort to attain a competitive racing position.

(R Rueven) Had to steady near the 800M when held tight. Vet inspection: Sharp upper molars which caused ulceration to the cheek. Trainer advised that he should take remedial action and to ensure that his horses are fit and prepared for racing.

RACE 11 (R616) Class 5a – 1100M (C4 sc)
Due to regional rescheduling, this race was rescheduled to start at 5:50pm.

(R Rueven) Raced greenly throughout.
5 ALPHA SONIC
(App R Nuqman) Jumped inwards at the start, severely tightening runner.

(App I Fikri) Tightened badly on jumping and had to be restrained, losing considerable ground. *(See Report).
11 SMALL CHILLI
(App M Lukman) Veered outwards markedly at the start, cannoning into runner.
App I Fikri (CAORUNN) reported that the cross-nose band of the gelding had come loose on jumping and he had trouble controlling the horse but further it had annoyed the gelding, being loose. It was ascertained that the cross-nose band was a rubber design and it had come over the bottom jaw as the start was effected. Trainer S Hamilton was advised that she should use a different type of cross-nose band on the gelding in future starts.

RACE 12 (R617) Class 5b – 1100M (C4 sc)
The Stewards permitted Jockey SU Lim to be the rider of PENNSYLVANIA at 2kgs overweight as there was no other suitable rider available.

2 MISE EN GARDE
(App WW Cheah) Jumped awkwardly. Had to be restrained severely to avoid the heels when runner shifted out at the turn into the straight. *(See Report).

4 KUBERA’S CHIEF
(App R Nuqman) Shifted in shortly after the start, crowding runners and then laid outwards at the turn into the straight and had to be restrained to avoid the heels.

(S Ruzaini) Crowded from the outside shortly after the start, thereby losing ground.
9 LEGACY FIGHTER

(E Ferreira) Taken outwards at the turn into the straight to obtain a clear run and caused runner to check. *(See Report).

(App M Lukman) Drifted out in the straight.
When questioned, Jockey MM Firdaus (LEGACY FIGHTER) stated that although he had been instructed to ride a forward race, the gelding could not go the early pace although he had tapped with his whip and pushed it early, He had been crowded at the first turn but believed the distance of 1100M and the speed of Selangor races was such that the gelding was unable to race in a prominent position, further it had given nothing in the straight and compounded badly.
At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey E Ferreira (SO BEAUTIFUL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he shifted out when blocked on straightening causing MISE EN GARDE to check.
In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey E Ferreira’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days, to be deferred, with effect from 12 June 2023 and to expire on 18 June 2023, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
