Platinum Glory completes hattrick

He might have been the youngest horse to come over from Macau after racing ceased at the former Portugese enclave, but Platinum Glory is now standing tall amongst his fellow imports at his new home in Sungai Besi.
The four-year-old by Showtime fought his way to his third consecutive win in just four starts in Malaysia when he staved off a determined challenge by Pacific Star to win by a neck in the Class 4A – 1400m handicap at his home base today.
The only other Macau import to win three races thus far is Snow Dragon but the six-year-old has raced eight times.
Ridden by Marc Lerner for the first time today, Platinum Glory jumped well and tracked Salamence who took up his usual role as pacemaker.
He drew level with the leader at the 200m but the Australian gelding was inclined to hang in and Lerner had to straighten him momentarily. Just he raced past Salamence, Pacific Star was looming large on the outside.
Platinum Glory and Pacific Star then drew away from the rest to fight out the finish with the former winning by a neck.

“He (Platinum Glory) has improved a lot since coming over from Macau,” said trainer Ricky Choi from Ireland where he purchased two horses at the Tattersalls 2YO Breeze Up Sale on Friday.
“He has won over 1400m thus far but I think he can go further (in distance).
“He will need to go up the ranking (points) to make sure of a berth in the big race (RM1 mil 4YO Mile Championship) in July. I am targeting him for that race.”
“Superb run,” said Lerner. “They were a bit faster at the start but he (Platinum Glory) reacted beautifully.”
“He got me off the bridle at the top of the straight so I think he wins 1400m on his class. He will be much better over a mile or even further because after the post he kept on going.
“Good horse but I think the distance (1400m) was not ideal for him.”
Platinum Glory was purchased by the Macau Jockey Club for NZ$30,000 at the Ready To Run Sale. He had just one run in the 2022/03 season at Taipa, then scored twice over 1350m on the sand track and was placed thrice in 11 starts the following season.
