Two wins in the last six days has secured Anjou Crown a starting place in the RM1mil Selangor Mile in a fortnight’s time.

The Exceed And Excel galloper was way down the ranking list with 56 points when nominations for the 1600m race for four-year-olds were first announced on Jun 26.

Placed in seven of 10 starts Australia and twice in his first three runs in the country, Anjou Crown shed the maiden tag last Sunday with a comfortable win in a Class 3 – 1600m handicap.

Promoted a class and ridden again by Liam Riordan in the Class 2 contest over the same trip today, Anjou Crown settled in midfield but was some 10 lengths adrift of stablemate Navarre who set a sizzling pace in front.

Navarre was four lengths clear of To Remember at the top of the straight. Anjou Crown had closed in third at this stage but still has six lengths to make up.

Navarre was still clear of the rest at the 200m but started to run out of steam 100m out. Anjou Crown cut down his lead with every stride to hit the front close home to win by 3/4-length. Trees Of Valinor also finished well to take third placing.

“Nice win by Anjou Crown especially with the six-day back-up from his last win,” said trainer Simon Dunderdale.

“He’s a definite miler and a progressive type.”

“Very confident in the horse (Anjou Crown) today,” said Riordan who landed an early double after also winning on Naughty Kid.

“Since I have ridden him, his only blemish was when he played up in the barriers (and finished fifth).

“He’s got a great turn of foot and a horse to watch.

“Buffalo Stable purchased him to run in the Selangor Mile and I think he has done enough to get a run.”
