Banker’s Victory (4b.a.g So You Think – Roma Giaconda by Magic Albert)

Banker’s Victory romped to an easy win in the Visit Malaysia – Sabah – Centre Point Sabah Stakes at Sungai Besi today to give trainer Johnny Lim another hand in his quest for the Selangor Mile in July.

The son of So You Think is a proven miler with two wins over the distance in Australia and won second-up in the country over 1500m last December.

Banker’s Victory was disqualified from a subsequent third placing and had two more runs in Class 3 for another third.

But the Australian four-year-old was racing for the first time over 1600m today and clearly relished the trip.

Banker’s Victory was slow into stride but apprentice Zulhilmi Marzuki, riding the gelding for the first time, was able to get him going quickly and shot off from the pack to lead from Pacific Pery and Banker’s General on settling down.

Pacific Pery then ranged alongside Banker’s Victory heading out of the back straight and pulled away to a clear lead at the halfway mark.

Pacific Pery drifted wide making the turn into the straight and Banker’s Victory took the run on his inside to regain the lead in the matter of strides.

From thereon, Banker’s Victory cruised to victory by 3-3/4 lengths to give Zulhilmi his second winner.

Gulf Eagle battled to beat Banker’s Victory for second placing.

“I think the light weight with Zulhilmi’s claim (3-1/2kg) did the trick today,” said Lim.
