Pacific Energy (4b.nz.g Super Seth – The Real Beel by Savabeel)

A smack-up third in the Tunku Gold Cup in his very first big test just two weeks ago, Pacific Energytoyed’ with his opposition when he won the Visit Malaysia – Terengannu – Batu Burok Beach Stakes (1200m) at Sungai Besi here today.

Dropping back to Class 3 after beaten just a nose and a neck in the Group 1 contest, the Super Seth galloper was backed down to odds-on (RM9) even though he won carrying top-weight 59kg.

Drawn on the outside barrier, Pacific Energy (Jerlyn Seow) had no luck in the running, having to race four to five-wide all the way from the start.

Pacific Energy was second last when the field settled down with Singha Bay and Banker’s Dowager sharing the lead in front ahead of last-start Ipoh winner Witnessimpact.

Singha Bay and Banker’s Dowager were joined by Banker’s Boss at the 600m but the rest of the field had bunched up behind them with newcomer Soon Soon and Pacific Energy making a forward move wide out.

By the top of the straight, Soon Soon and Pacific Energy had joined Banker’s Boss in the lead.

Soon Soon, the former Hong Kong galloper making his Malaysia debut, was momentarily in front but Pacific Energy soon raced to the lead and drew away to win by 3/4 length.

Pacific Energy leads the field home

Banker’s Boss, who was initially racing on the inside of Pacific Energy early in the home straight, was switched out behind the heels of the leader in the final 100m.

Banker’s Boss was charging at Pacific Energy in the closing stages but to no avail. Cheval Pegasus finished strongly late to take third placing.

A winner at Caulfield in Australia, Pacific Energy has now picked up four wins in Class 3 in 10 starts in Malaysia.

“He is a nice speedy horse with a very sensitive mouth. So you can’t hold him too much and must ride him with soft hands,” said Seow who has partnered Pacific Energy in all his four wins.

As for racing ride all the way today, she explained: “The horse was drawn wide and I didn’t have much of a choice but to ride him with confidence as the best horse in the race. He won accordingly.”

“The horse came back from a superb run in a Group 1 last start and proved a class above today,” said trainer David Kok
