The Selangor Turf Club’s Community Horse Project (CHP) – 2026 2-Year-Old Sale concluded successfully following two well-supported online sales held on 30 January and 27 February, underscoring growing confidence and sustained demand for quality young bloodstock among regional owners from Malaysia, Singapore, China and Hong Kong.

From a catalogue of 53 two-year-olds, a total of 50 horses were sold, representing a clearance rate of approximately 94%. The combined sales generated a gross turnover of RM5,815,000, achieving an overall average price of RM116,300 and a median of RM120,000, reflecting healthy buyer engagement across both sales.

The January sale set a strong platform for the series, recording a highest bid of RM210,000 for Lot 33, purchased by Indian Horse Club. Momentum continued into February, where 21 two-year-olds were sold. The top-priced lot of the February sale was Lot 48, secured for RM175,000 by Selangor Turf Club trainer Richard Lim.

Beyond the sales figures, buyers were further attracted by a series of racing incentives announced by international bloodstock partners. In January, Mr Nicky Wong, International Business Development Manager at Inglis, announced a buyer incentive scheme for selected lots. Horses with Lot Numbers 9, 18, 19, 24, 26, 27, 30 and 33 will be eligible to compete in three special races at Selangor Turf Club, each carrying RM20,000 bonus on top of the prize money.

Additional incentives were unveiled ahead of the February sale by New Zealand Bloodstock (NZB). Horses purchased from Lots 44 through 53 will be eligible to compete for enhanced prize pools, including the RM150,000 3YO NZB RTR 2025 Graduate Cup, to be run in 2027, and the RM300,000 NZB RTR Open Championship. These incentives further strengthen the appeal of the 2-Year-Old Sale by linking quality bloodstock with access to Malaysia’s most lucrative restricted races.

Tan Sri Datuk Sir Cham Hak Lim, Chairman of Selangor Turf Club

Chairman of the Selangor Turf Club, Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham Hak Lim, welcomed the strong outcome and its importance to the broader racing ecosystem.

“The strong clearance rate and consistent demand across both sales demonstrate growing confidence in Malaysia’s racing industry. The Community Horse Project continues to play a key role in building a sustainable ownership model while strengthening the future pipeline of racehorses,” he said.

The success of the Community Horse Project has also drawn positive response from industry leaders beyond Selangor. Chairman of the Perak Turf Club, Dato John Lim Ewe Chuan, praised the initiative as a catalyst for wider industry collaboration.

“I am very impressed by the Selangor Turf Club’s leadership in launching the Community Horse Project. It enhances accessibility to ownership and encourages greater regional participation, which is vital for the continued growth of Malaysian racing.”

Building on the strong support from industry stakeholders, the Community Horse Project continues to position itself as a key platform for sustainable ownership and long-term growth within Malaysian racing. With structured incentives, dedicated race programming and increasing regional participation, the programme offers owners a compelling pathway into the sport.

For those who were unable to secure a purchase during the February auction, opportunities remain. A small number of horses were passed in and are available via private offers, consistent with international auction house practice.
