Fright lands brilliant hattrick

Just how good is Fright, the former Australian maiden galloper who has taken the local scene by storm?
That’s the question everyone is asking after the son of Brazen Beau romped to yet another smashing win in the Max Two Stakes over 1200m at Sungai Besi today.
Placed in three of four starts at two and three years in Australia, Fright set a new course record when winning his Malaysian debut over 1150m on the No. 2 track, clocking a time of 1min 6.27secs.
And to prove that the performance was no fluke, the four-year-old did it again, this time rewriting the 1275m course record, also on the inside track, with a time of 1min 14.21secs.
Fright picked up 15 points from those two runs in Class 4 and went into the Max Two race today as the top-rated runner at 66 points and the top choice for punters who could not see anyone else winning the race.
Fright was backed down to RM6 on the win tote. The next pick was Pantong at RM93.
To everyone’s expectations, Fright gave a galloping exhibition. Taking the lead on settling down as expected, he was pulling his head off in the back straight so jockey Khaw Choon Kit let him go and Fright was five lengths clear of Pantong turning for home.
Fright was hardly tested in the run to the post to win by 4-1/2 lengths, with Guru Fight coming on in the final 200m to beat Pantong for second, giving trainer Simon Dunderdale a 1-2-3 finish.
“He (Fright) stumbled at the start today because he was waiting too long in the barrier,” said Khaw who has ridden the gelding in all his three starts here.
“But that didn’t matter. He is a good horse and showed a lot of ability. He was just too good for them today.”
“Just amazing,” said Dunderdale of Fright.
“Three starts, two course records and he could have done it again.”
Fright covered the 1200m trip on the short course in 1min 9.93secs, just 1.63 second outside the course record held jointly by War Dragon, Captain Obvious and Forsa Eclipse.
Remember Antipodean? He burst on the scene last year and reeled off seven consecutive wins.
Dunderdale sure has another brilliant one in his yards.
