After a brilliant introduction to the Malaysian racing scene last weekend, visiting South African jockey Kaidan Brewer will be looking to follow up with a competitive book of rides in his second weekend in Malaysia. Once again, he teams up with the S Dunderdale stable for his six rides off the back of winning in the Buffalo Stable silks with Thunderous in the Tabcorp Trophy last weekend.

He starts off in race 2 with 3 China Pearl who looks well overdue on paper and his chances are certainly enhanced dropping back to Class 5 company after a string of Class 4 runs where he was running on with too much ground to make up. The biggest query is the drop back to 1020m where he has yet to have run over and on a fast running track 2, he might be run off his feet with early speed expected from Simlong Beach, Southern Speed and Ari. In saying that, the fast pace should set up a strong finish and he cannot be left out.

In race 5 he teams up with 11 Santino who’s only had the two starts since relocating from Singapore last year and is hard to assess. His first run in the country he ran second behind Hasten and beaten 1.75 lengths before going for a five-month spell and returned to the track four weeks ago when finishing unplaced behind I’m Back. Second up should see him strip fitter but it can catch a horse out. He has a light weight of 54kgs to shoulder and from barrier 5 he should be competitive.

His next ride is in the following race with the Australian newcomer, 1 Pantong in an Open Maiden event. Pantong showed good pace back in Australia when racing at different tracks such as Hawkesbury, Gosford and Newcastle and notched up six placings from nine starts. That sort of form should be too good for the local runners and he should be hard to beat.

Race 7 and once again, Brewer will ride an Australian newcomer with 2 Cool Man who’s had the five starts for a win and a second. He’s also hard to assess first up in the country and will have to be a fairly decent sort to beat the likes of Trees Of Valinor, who’s resuming after a break, and the unbeaten Storm To Finish who is one of the upcoming exciting three-year-olds in the country.

Race 8 is the first of his rides in the Buffalo Stable silks and rides the honest 7 Lightning Gal who is already a four-time winner in the country. She’s stepping up to 1300m where she has won twice from four starts before and is certainly capable of winning with luck in running. Her last two starts she had to recover from racing wide and was still able to win her penultimate start but ran unplaced last time out over shorter when beaten 3.25 lengths.

Capetian Looks Hard To Beat in Race 9

Saving the best for last, arguably the best bet for the afternoon comes in race 9 with 3 Capetian who was an impressive winner on his debut when leading all the way to win by 2.5 lengths. The New Zealand bred gelding by US Navy Flag impressed in the trial in the build-up to his debut win and managed to follow up on raceday with a dominant showing. Stepping up in class to Class 4 company is a stiff task but with scope for more improvement and a good draw from barrier 4, he should be the one to beat.

Eleven races take place on Sunday the 21st of September with the first race off at 12:45pm local time.
