Selangor Turf Club continues to strengthen its racing pool with the arrival of five more promising thoroughbreds purchased by trainer Nick Selvan at the 2024 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale. Held at Karaka, the sale once again affirmed its reputation as the Southern Hemisphere’s premier source of proven two-year-old talent, with Malaysian buyers securing 40 lots valued at over NZD 3 million.
Selvan approached the sale with patience and precision, selecting horses not only for pedigree and performance but for long-term potential. Rather than rushing them into competition, he opted for a thoughtful preparatory phase at the stables of Richard Otto in New Zealand. There, the horses were given time to mature in a pristine natural environment—an approach that reflects Selvan’s commitment to sustainable conditioning and mental development.

“We weren’t just buying horses—we were investing in potential,” said Selvan. “Giving them time to mature in New Zealand’s natural environment was key. Now that they’ve arrived, I’m confident they’ll reward that patience with performance.

Now freshly arrived in Malaysia, these five thoroughbreds are poised to make their mark on local turf. With their international bloodlines and carefully managed upbringing, they represent a new wave of quality and professionalism in the Club’s racing program.
