In conjunction with Malaysia 68^th Independence Day celebration on 31st August 2025, the Selangor Turf Club will stage the running of the Merdeka Cup (Independence Day Cup) on the day.

The race would be one of the black-type races hosted by the Club in the series of 15 races scheduled in the year 2025. The race is open to all horses aged six years and below, will cover a distance of 1800 meters and offer a prize purse of RM100,000. Trophies will be awarded immediately after the race to the winning horse’s owner, trainer, and jockey.

The Merdeka Cup serves as a meaningful platform for the Club to celebrate the patriotic spirit shared by its stakeholders—including horse owners, trainers, jockeys, management, and the public. Merdeka is a cherished legacy that belongs to every Malaysian, transcending race and religion.

To mark the occasion, the Club will begin the day with a ceremonial raising of the Malaysia flag, followed by a rousing chant of “Merdeka”, led by the Chairman of Selangor Turf Club, Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham Hak Lim.

Throughout the day, races will be named in honour of Malaysia’s Merdeka theme, patriotic songs will fill the air, and national flag will be distributed to invited guests—creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere befitting the celebration.

On the same day, the Club would host running of a sponsored race, the Trinity Cup, open to Supreme A horses rated 71 and above, run over a distance of 1400 meters and offering prize money of RM70,000.
