This weekend’s Selangor Mile at Selangor Turf Club promises to be a showcase of elite riding talent, as two internationally renowned jockeys—Ryan Curatolo and Clint Johnston-Porter—joined the field for one of Malaysia’s most anticipated races of the season.
Ryan Curatolo, the French-born jockey with over 500 career wins across eight countries and recently completed a successful stints in Japan and Australia brings a wealth of international experience to the Malaysian turf. Curatolo is known for his patient riding style, tactical awareness and ability to adapt across racing jurisdictions. His resume includes victory in the Qatar Derby, and he’s fresh off a 14-win run in Japan’s NAR circuit, making him a formidable contender this weekend.
Clint Johnston-Porter, one of Western Australia’s most consistent performer, arrives with momentum following a standout 2024/25 season. With over 940 career wins, including a breakthrough Group 1 victory in the Railway Stakes, Johnston-Porter is celebrated for his well-timed finishes and strong partnerships with leading trainers like Adam Durrant. His ability to dominate middle-distance races makes him a natural fit for the Selangor Mile.
The inclusion of Curatolo and Johnston-Porter reflects Selangor Turf Club’s commitment to international collaboration, following recent appearances by jockeys from Thailand and Australia. Their participation not only elevates the competitive standard but also offers local fans and trainers a glimpse into world-class race riding.
Owners and Trainers are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with such seasoned professionals. “Having riders like Ryan and Clint in the mix raises the bar for everyone,” said Simon Dunderdale. “It’s a great learning opportunity for our younger jockeys and a thrill for racing fans.”
With R Curatolo’s international flair, he’s set to ride Valois and with tactical precision from Johnston-Porter who will be riding Eruption for LAwson Moy, the Selangor Mile is shaping up to be a race to remember.
