Pacific Victory and Antipodean, who battled it out in the RM200,000 4 Year Old Sprint Championship (1200m) at Sungai Besi yesterday to finish first and third respectively, are both eyeing the grand prize, the RM1 million Selangor Mile (1600m) on Jul 20 – the first million-ringgit race in Malaysia since Covid-19.

They are among 23 horses nominated for the mile championship for four-year-olds when the first nomination closed today.

Honesty, beaten a neck in second place yesterday, will not go for the Selangor Mile.

Thunderous, who gave a good account of himself to finish fourth, is nominated, so are Big Union and Valois, both of whom were flashing home towards the end yesterday and will definitely appreciate the longer trip next month.

But they all will have to contend with Lucky Magic, who has already won seven of his 12 runs in the country, including the Penang Gold Cup (2000m) and Perak Derby (2000m).

The two victories are achieved on the road so it will be interesting to see how he fares against top-notch opposition at his home base.

Adding into the mix next month are also Platinum Glory, who reeled off three consecutive wins over 1400m before running second to Gulf Eagle in the TNI Charity Cup (1600m) yesterday, and yesterday’s debut winner Hypeman.

Shinjuku also gave a good account of himself on his Malaysian debut yesterday when second to Red Sun over 1400m.

Platinum Glory, Hypeman and Shinjuku are among the nominations, giving the Selangor Mile a new prospective after the 4 Year Old Sprint Championship. 

Last season’s champion trainer Simon Dunderdale tops the number of nominations with six: Valois, Thunderous, Hypeman, Shinjuku, So We Fight and Enticing.

The final declaration for the Selangor Mile will be on Jul 11 and barrier draw will be conducted on Jul 15.
