GENERAL REPORTS (SLTC)

CHANGE OF RACING DISTANCE FOR SELANGOR 2 MAY 2021 RACE MEETING

The Selangor Turf Club has decided to change the racing distance for Race 1 and Race 2 from 1200M to 1250M in the Selangor 2 May 2021 race meeting.

RACE 11 (R331) CLASS 5 (B) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 18 APRIL 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2021

The Stewards, on 28 April 2021 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded the inquiry into the riding tactics employed on TIGER BOSS (App A N Varmah) and BOOM ALMIGHTY (App WW Cheah). Parties were interviewed by telephone.

Trainer C Leck advised that he had instructed App N Varmah to ride TIGER BOSS for pace and attempt to lead. App N Varmah confirmed that he had ridden TIGER BOSS vigourously in an attempt to lead, which he had accomplished easily but had been taken on by BOOM ALMIGHTY when that horse had progressed on his outside, he had been reluctant to restrain TIGER BOSS as he believed the gelding was travelling well and BOOM ALMIGHTY had not crossed him.

Trainer R Lines advised that he had instructed App WW Cheah to have BOOM ALMIGHTY, which was having its initial Malaysian race start, in a forward to handy position from its outside draw. App WW Cheah stated that he had lost his near stirrup iron on jumping when BOOM ALMIGHTY brushed DANE’S ANATOMY (R Rueven). He had attempted to re-secure the stirrup iron and had only partly achieved this approaching the 850M. In attempting to secure his stirrup iron, he had allowed BOOM ALMIGHTY to advance on the outside of the leader TIGER BOSS. Whilst not intending to be in this position, he had decided to allow BOOM ALMIGHTY to lead, as he believed it was travelling well.

In assessing the evidence, the Stewards attached no blame to App N Varmah’s riding of TIGER BOSS. The Stewards considered that App WW Cheah’s riding of BOOM ALMIGHTY was unsatisfactory, however believed they could not substantiate a charge under the Rules due to his riding being in part influenced by him having lost his stirrup iron. App WW Cheah was reprimanded for failing to ride BOOM ALMIGHTY in a diligent manner.

INQUIRY INTO THE REASON FOR APP M LUKMAN (ALICEINWONDERLAND) BEING DISLODGED NEAR THE 450M IN RACE 6 (R370) OPEN MAIDEN (WFA) – 1100M (SHORT COURSE), SUNDAY, 25 APRIL 2021, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2021

On 30 April 2021 at the Selangor Turf Club, App M Lukman, the rider of ALICEINWONDERLAND, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Mr WC Lim, was questioned as to this incident.

The Stewards were satisfied that the evidence disclosed that at this stage, App M Lukman was following UNLIMITED STAR (J De Souza) when it commenced to tire. He had moved to the outside of the heels of that gelding but ALICEINWONDERLAND had shifted back inwards when tending to shy away from SLEEPY JOE (J Low) which had progressed on its outside. ALICEINWONDERLAND had then struck UNLIMITED STAR’s heels and blundered, dislodging App M Lukman.

In assessing this incident, the Stewards apportioned no blame to any rider.
