RACE 1 (R996) CLASS 5(B) – 1200M

NEVERUNCONDITIONAL, a course scratching as it had sustained a stone bruise near fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Emergency acceptors, D’GREAT EMPRESS and BEAUTY THIRTYNINE were both withdrawn due to a capacity field.

HEART FEELING (App A Azizi) threw its heads up vigorously after the start, resulting in App A Azizi becoming unbalanced and being dislodged.   HEART FEELING will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

RAINBOW FISH (S Ruzaini), DAWNBREAKER (App R Nuqman) and MYSTICAL STAR (R Rueven) were all slow into stride.

Approaching the 800M-mark, D’GREAT CHANCE (AK Lim) became unbalanced, rolled outwards, inconveniencing DARCI SUPER (App Z Ahmad).

App WW Cheah, the rider of MAKE U FAMOUS and Jockey R Rueven, the rider of MYSTICAL STAR, both reported that their mounts were not striding out freely.  Post-race veterinary examinations of MAKE U FAMOUS and MYSTICAL STAR revealed no obvious abnormality.

A post-race veterinary examination of SILVER SIXTYSIX (WK Lee) revealed that the gelding returned with a cut to its near hind coronet and will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that D’GREAT CHANCE bled and will be barred from racing for a period of three (3) months under MRA Rule 92(3)(a)&(b) and thereafter will be required to pass a bleeder’s test before being declared to race again.

App WW Cheah and Trainer B Ng, the rider and trainer of MAKE U FAMOUS respectively, were questioned with regards to the ride of the gelding.  After consideration, the Stewards warned App WW Cheah that he should ride all his mounts in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

SKY DRAGON and D’GREAT OCEAN are both course scratching.  SKY DRAGON had sustained a stone bruise off fore and D’GREAT OCEAN had sustained corneal ulcer right eye.  Each will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again

SECKILL, which was down 19kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

HOUSEHOLD DYNASTY (App S Hafis) which was slow to begin, will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

SUNNY STAR (S Ruzaini) was slow into stride.

IAMBUTTER (AK Lim) was hanging inwards in the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of OTTAWA  (Y Aify) revealed no obvious abnormality.

LUKE MAN, a course scratching as it had sustained a swollen off fore fetlock, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Emergency acceptors, D’GREAT EFFORT and SIMLONG BEACH were both withdrawn due to a capacity field.

Approaching the 800M-mark, INVICTUS WARRIOR (App A Saran) was crowded on the inside of GOLDEN SHOW (Y Aify), having to steady.

INVICTUS WARRIOR drifted in from the whip in the straight.

Jockey KP Lim, the rider of NO REGRETS, reported that his mount was not striding out freely.

A post-race veterinary examination of  NO REGRETS  revealed no obvious abnormality.

The state of track was upgraded to “Yielding” after the running of this race.

STRAP MARKS and MAGIC SEVENTY TWO, both course scratching as they had sustained a bruised off fore fetlock and had skin allergy respectively, will each be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Emergency acceptor, VAIN TYCOON was withdrawn due to a capacity field.

MR PABNO (App M Ruvanesh) which could not be boxed, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 3.06pm.  The mare will be required to requalify for ORT.

D’GREAT BOSS (R Rueven), which jumped awkwardly and was slow to begin, will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

Jockey AK Lim, the rider of GENERAL NIX, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination of GENERAL NIX revealed no obvious abnormality.

App S Hafis, the rider of BANGKOK BOY, was fined the sum of RM1,000/- for a contravention of MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(i) for striking his horse with the whip forward of the shoulder whilst in the drawn position.

 RACE 6 (R1001) RAPID STAKES A (SW) – 1400M

(ONLY APPRENTICES ALLOWANCES PERMTTED)

SHANGHAI NIGHTS which was down 22kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

Shortly after the start, MULTIBLUE SHARK (App SN Shiva) clipped the heels of DANCING RAIN (HS Gill) which rolled outwards.  Jockey HS Gill was shown the video of this incident and warned to exercise more care in future. 

Passing the 200M-mark, SHANGHAI NIGHTS (S Ruzaini) and AHTIMS KLIS (AK Lim) brushed.

App A Azizi, the rider of SHYAM SINGHA ROY, reported that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises.  A post-race veterinary examination of SHYAM SINGHA ROY revealed that the gelding returned with intermittent dorsal displacement of soft palate and mild respiratory distress.   SHYAM SINGHA ROY will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

App A Azizi, the rider of SHYAM SINGHA ROY, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, Trainer T Asogan, was shown the video of his ride in the latter stages and was warned against the practice of using his whip on a horse that is clearly beaten.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY which was down 19kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (SU Lim) was hanging out in the latter stages and shortly thereafter, Jockey SU Lim changed his whip into his left hand, resulting in HAPPY BIRTHDAY shifting out further.  Jockey SU Lim was shown the video of this incident and was warned to take stricter measures to keep his horses from shifting ground in the future.

A post-race veterinary examination of MAZANZE (HS Gill) revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 8 (R1003) CLASS 5(B) – 1700M

BLUE EYED BOY, a course scratching as it had sustained bruised near fore and off fore fetlocks, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

At approximately the 250M-mark, LEEDSTHEWAY (App Z Ahmad) and APOLLO ROCK (AK Lim) became crowded and had to steady when FIRST SUCCESS (S Zulfikri) shifted in.  Thereafter, APOLLO ROCK was baulked when racing tight on the inside of BLACK TAIPAN (SU Lim).  At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey S Zulfikri pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) and was suspended from riding in races for two (2) Penang Race Days with effect from Sunday, 28th August 2022 and to expire on Saturday, 24th September 2022, both days inclusive.   He was informed of his Right of Appeal (5.35pm).

1ST DAY, PENANG AUGUST MEETING 2022

The Stewards today (27th August 2022) continued their Inquiry into the running and handling of  CHIEF CLERK (KC Tham).  After questioning Trainer I Ismadi, the Trainer of CHIEF CLERK, and taking further evidence from Jockey KC Tham, and reviewing the video, the Stewards informed both Trainer I Ismadi and Jockey KC Tham that they were not entirely satisfied with the explanations given.   However, Jockey KC Tham was warned that he was expected to ride all his mounts in such a way so as to leave no room for query.
