STIPENDIARY STEWARDS’ REPORT

PENANG DECEMBER MEETING 2021  

2ND DAY, SATURDAY, 25TH DECEMBER  2021

Panel of  Stipendiary Stewards:

RACE 1 (R1021) CLASS 5(B)– 1400M              

DAWNBREAKER, a course scratching as it had sustained a stone bruise off fore sole, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

GOLDEN SHOW which was up 57kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

NOVA FACTOR (App I Firdzriel) jumped awkwardly, throwing its head up and was slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination was requested which revealed no obvious abnormality.

L’KEN (L De Souza) stood and was slow to begin.

GOLDEN SHOW hung out in the straight, finishing the race wide.

App I Firdzriel, the rider of NOVA FACTOR, dropped his whip at approximately the 400M- mark and was fined RM250/- under MRA Rule 152(5)(a). 

Trainer T Asogan was questioned with regards to the improved performance of GOLDEN SHOW (S Ruzaini) today as compared to its previous run on 4th December 2021.  He was unable to offer any explanation other than that this horse was having its first start in Kuala Lumpur and was disappointing.

RACE 2 (R1022) CLASS 5(B) – 1400M                               

Trainer SY Lim was fined RM250/- for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to declare the use of pacifier on MUSANG KING (R Rueven) within the stipulated time. 

BIG SUPER (AM Aizat) was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barriers and was passed fit to race.

MR DREYFUSS (J Daniel) jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride.

HOSTWIN CHEVALIER (HK Cheng) hung out in the straight.

The whips of Jockey S Saddam (OVERSEER) and Jockey L De Souza (AIR POWER) broke during the running. 

Jockeys J Daniel (MR DREYFUSS), AK Lim (ANOTHER SHOW), AM Aizat (BIG SUPER) and HK Cheng (HOSTWIN CHEVALIER) reported that their respective mount was not striding out freely.  Post-race veterinary examinations of the 4 geldings revealed no obvious abnormality.

Trainer CC Ooi was questioned with regards to the improved performance of YULONG DREAM (J Low) today.  The only explanation he was able to offer was that in his opinion, this is a weaker field today.  Trainer CC Ooi’s explanation was noted and his attention was drawn to the rules regarding “in- and-out” running (MRA Rule 117(3)).

RACE 3 (R1023) CLASS 5(A) – 1400M 

BANGKOK BOY, a course scratching as it had a swollen off fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

SUNNY FIGHTER dislodged its rider, Jockey S Saddam en route to the start.  The gelding was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon behind the barrier and was passed fit to race.  Jockey S Saddam was examined by the Club Medical Officer who certified him fit to continue riding for the remainder of the day.

MYSTICAL STAR (AM Aizat) was slow into stride.

DROUGHT (App S Hafis) hang in in the straight, resulting in QUASAR (S Ruzaini) having to steady momentarily at the 150M-mark.

CALVADOS (App S Rosmizan) which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

App A Saran, the rider of CRACKING TOTTIE, reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare returned lame near fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

SHADOW SPEED which was up 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

LOUEY VELOCE (App WW Cheah) jumped awkwardly inwards, crowding WILLOW SPRINGS (App S Rosmizan) onto NO REGRETS (App AR Aiman).

A post-race veterinary examination of NO REGRETS which raced poorly, revealed no obvious abnormality.  The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

A post-race veterinary examination of  TERMS OF REFERENCE (App AR Aiman) revealed no obvious abnormality except having cast its off fore plate. 

App I Firdzriel, the rider of SIMBA, reported that his mount was not striding out freely.  A post-race veterinary examination of SIMBA revealed no obvious abnormality.

RACE 6 (R1026) CLASS 4(B) – 1200M

MISS MICHELLE (HS Gill) which could not be boxed, was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 4.08 pm.    MISS MICHELLE will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

FLINT STAR (App A Nazir) jumped away awkwardly.

TUN O’REILLY (App S Rosmizan) was slow into stride. 

At about the 1100M-mark, ZAC ACE (App AR Aiman) was inconvenienced when FLINT STAR shifted inwards.  App A Nazir, in the presence of his Employing Trainer, F Maynard, was shown the video of the incident and warned to exercise more care in future. 

The Club Veterinary Surgeon reported that FLINT STAR returned cut in the tongue.

RACE 7 (R1027) CLASS 5(A) – 1200M

Emergency acceptors, FUNKADELIC and BATTLESTAR were withdrawn due to a capacity field.

LUCKY SIXTYSIX, a course scratching as it had sustained a stone bruise off fore foot, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

TWILL GUY which was down 16kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

TILSWORTH SYDNEY (App S Hafis) stood as the start was effected, losing several lengths.

TILSWORTH SYDNEY will be required to pass one (1) starting stall test before being declared to race again.

Approaching the 200M-mark, D’GREAT CHANCE (AM Aizat) which was hanging out, rolled outwards, inconveniencing LEESTOWN EXPRESS (App S Rosmizan) and JULIUS CAESAR (HS Gill). Shortly thereafter, GURNEY DRIVE (S Saddam) shifted inwards, interfering with MAKE U FAMOUS (J Low) and TILSWORTH JOSHI (App A Nazir).

At approximately the 100M-mark, TILSWORTH SYDNEY shifted inwards from the whip, interfering with MAKE U FAMOUS and TILSWORTH JOSHI.  

At a subsequent Inquiry, both Jockey S Saddam and App S Hafis pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that Jockey S Saddam shifted in at approximately the 200M-mark and App S Hafis shifted in at approximately the 100M-mark, resulting in the above interference.  After consideration, Jockey S Saddam and App S Hafis were each suspended for two (2) race days effective Monday, 27th December 2021 until Saturday, 8th January 2022, both days inclusive.  They were both advised of their Right of Appeal (5.00pm).

GENERAL REPORT(S)
PNTC Trackwork  – 11th March 2021
 

At the conclusion of an Inquiry on 21st December 2021, Trainer CC Ooi was found guilty to a charge for contravening MRA Rule 152(5)(b) in that he disobeyed the order of the Stewards by permitting Track Rider Muhammad Zikry bin Nazly (MRA Pass No. TR.122) to ride on the main track on 11th March 2021 when he was not authorized to do so, resulting in him falling off and breaking his leg.  Trainer CC Ooi was fined a sum of RM2,000/- and informed of his Right of Appeal (11.00 am).


PNTC Security Department Report – 20th December 2021

Acting on a report from the PNTC Security Department, Syce Vigneswaran a/l Krishnan (MRA Pass No. S696) employed by Trainer T Asogan, was fined RM200/- under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to comply with the SOP set by Penang Turf Club in that he was found trespassing and cutting grass at the Club Service Road (restricted area) on 20th December 2021.

The report dated 17 December 2021 (V21/076) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 72 coded urine and 74 sets of coded blood samples from the above mentioned race meeting were received on 5 December 2021, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.
