GENERAL REPORT(S)

RACE 3 (R933) CLASS 4 – 1300M, SATURDAY, 28TH JULY 2018,

2ND DAY, PENANG SPRINT TROPHY MEETING 2018

The Stewards today (29th July 2018) continued their Inquiry into the performance of HORSE WARRIOR in the above race.  Further evidence was taken from Trainer K Coetzee and Jockey HS Gill.  Trainer K Coetzee explained that his instructions were to ride the gelding from midfield to back as HORSE WARRIOR was having its first start since 17th October 2017.  Trainer K Coetzee stated that HORSE WARRIOR had bled during the trial on 24th October 2017 and had been sent for a very long spell.  The horse was resuming after passing its bleeder’s test on 22nd June 2018.  Trainer K Coetzee further explained that the gelding had been working well.  Jockey HS Gill stated that his instructions were to race from midfield to back, however, the gelding was not showing much pace from the 800M despite his urging and was racing further back in the field than he anticipated. However, the gelding started to improve from the 300M when he rode vigorously with the whip and did finish off the race well.  The Stewards advised Jockey HS Gill that he might have got too far back in the early stages of the race and he was warned  to ride his horses in such a manner so as to leave no room for query.

Trainer K Coetzee’s explanation was noted.

RACE 4 (R934) CLASS 4 – 1600M, SATURDAY, 28TH JULY 2018,

2ND DAY, PENANG SPRINT TROPHY MEETING 2018

The Stewards today (29th July 2018) concluded an Inquiry into the poor performance of BAHAR in the above race.  Evidence was taken from Trainer F Maynard and Jockey S Ruzaini, the trainer and rider of BAHAR respectively.  Trainer F Maynard stated that after the gelding’s run in its last start, his instructions were to sit midfield to allow the horse a chance to settle and finish the race off.   Jockey S Ruzaini stated that after getting a fair jump, BAHAR was very difficult to settle going into the first turn and had to be restrained from getting onto the heels of D’GREAT GLORY (App KC Wong).  Passing the 1000M, BAHAR again commenced to over-race and was difficult to settle.  From the 600M when he placed the gelding under pressure, it  failed to respond  to his riding and was very disappointing in the finish.

The Stewards noted the explanations tendered by Jockey S Ruzaini and Trainer F Maynard.  However, Trainer F Maynard was advised that should he make changes to his riding tactics, he should inform the Stewards.  Jockey S Ruzaini was advised to ride his mounts so as to leave no room for query.   BAHAR which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

SLTC GENERAL REPORT

RACE 1 (R894) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 21 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 24 July 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the incident approaching the 1200M in this race. Evidence was taken from Jockey J Low, the rider of RANT AND RAVE, App AM Aizat, the rider of JUST DUIT, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of LIM’S RANGER, Jockey A Aucharuz, the rider of BRILLIANT STAR, Jockey SU Lim, the rider of EMPEROR WARRIOR, and App A Zaimuddin, the rider of ELITE GUSTAVO.

Jockey J Low, the rider of RANT AND RAVE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he allowed his mount to drift inwards and did not leave sufficient room for the horses on his inside.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J Low’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey J Low’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 30 July 2018 and to expire on 5 August 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:35pm).

Jockey SU Lim, the rider of EMPEROR WARRIOR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that he crossed BRILLIANT STAR and ELITE GUSTAVO when not fully clear, causing ELITE GUSTAVO to become unbalanced and push BRILLIANT STAR outwards onto LIM’S RANGER, which was simultaneously crowded to the inside of RANT AND RAVE. As a result, LIM’S RANGER clipped the heels of RANT AND RAVE and blundered.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey SU Lim’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of three (3) Malaysian race days.

Jockey SU Lim subsequently exercised his Right of Appeal and applied for a Stay of Sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was allowed. The appeal hearing will be held at a date to be fixed.

………………………..

RACE 5 (R879) METRO A (SW) – 1200M (SHORT COURSE A), SUNDAY, 15 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 24 July 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, continued an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding App AM Aizat returning to scales 1.8kgs overweight on D’GREAT CONQUEROR, unplaced, in the above race.

The Stewards took further evidence from App AM Aizat, the rider of D’GREAT CONQUEROR, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard and Track Rider Muhammad Aiman Bin Mohd Nazir (TR.110), an employee of Trainer F Maynard. They also further examined the CCTV footage available from the scales area.

App AM Aizat, the rider of D’GREAT CONQUEROR, in the presence of his Master, Trainer F Maynard was found guilty of a charge of under MRA Rule 121(7) in that due to his negligence, D’GREAT CONQUEROR carried 1.8kgs overweight.

The particulars of the charge were that:

  1. he failed to ensure that his saddle was passed to Trainer F Maynard.
  2. he failed to notice that D’GREAT CONQUEROR had been fitted with a saddle that did not belong to him, although by his own admission the saddle in question was a different colour to the one he had weighed out with.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App AM Aizat’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of App AM Aizat’s suspension. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two (2) Malaysian race days with effect from 30 July 2018 and to expire on 5 August 2018, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal (2:55pm).

RACE 7 (R900) CLASS 4 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 21 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

The Stewards continued an inquiry from 21 July 2018 (Saturday) into the running and handling of ELEGENT (App AK Lim) in the above race. On 24 July 2018 (Tuesday), Trainer SY Lim admitted a breach of MRA Rule 35(8) in that he failed to notify the Stewards that ELEGENT was to be ridden differently to its most recent starts.

ELEGENT was restrained to sit behind the leaders on both 8 July 2018 [Race 1(R843)] and 15 July 2018 [Race 2 (R876)], but took the lead in this race.

The Stewards fined Trainer SY Lim RM500/- under MRA Rule 35(8).

RACE 10 (R903) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SATURDAY, 21 JULY 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB JULY MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 24 July 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of BEAUTIFUL BABY. Evidence was taken from Jockey SU Lim and Trainer SY Lim, the rider and trainer of BEAUTIFUL BABY respectively.

Trainer SY Lim stated that on its previous start at Perak Turf Club on 1 July 2018, BEAUTIFUL BABY had taken the lead and performed well. However, he had noted that BEAUTIFUL BABY had been successful in Singapore with more patient tactics. He therefore instructed Jockey SU Lim to take a position in midfield, which he reported to the Stewards prior to the race.

Jockey SU Lim explained that BEAUTIFUL BABY received some pressure after the jump from RED SAPPHIRE (J Low) on her inside. He therefore decided to drop back in the field to get away from RED SAPPHIRE, and shifted the mare across to the inside rail where he elected to follow PATERSON ROAD (Y Aify). However, as PATERSON ROAD was allowed to drop back through the field into a mid to back position, he found himself placed further away from the leaders than ideal. He added that BEAUTIFUL BABY finished the race well and would be better suited by a longer distance than the 1400M of this race.

Trainer SY Lim stated that his plan was to find a suitable 1600M race for BEAUTIFUL BABY next up, and to instruct the rider to take a midfield position.

 The Stewards noted their explanations.

MULTIBLUE TOSCA (App P Mogun) had to shift out across the heels of ONE MORE ACHIEVER (Z Khairil) to get a clear run at about the 250M, and then laid inwards, obliging the rider to stop riding and straighten his mount to obtain clear running.

ELUSIVE GENIUS (S Salee) was disappointed for a run racing to the 150M between ANGELFIRE (A Aucharuz) and PHANTASOS (S Ruzaini) when ANGELFIRE rolled out away from the whip.  Jockey A Aucharuz was shown the vision of the incident and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

The Stewards questioned Jockey SU Lim and Trainer HS Lim into the poor performance of RUN CHEETAH RUN today.  Trainer HS Lim was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than that the gelding may not have saddled up from its run on 10th June 2018.  Jockey SU Lim reported that the gelding was not striding out freely and failed to respond to his riding at any stage of the race and was very disappointing.  Their explanations were noted.  Trainer HS Lim was advised to report back to the Stewards should he find anything amiss with the gelding during the week.

Acting on veterinary advice that METEOR TWO (J Mallyon) was lame near fore, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1.49 pm.  The gelding will be required to pass a test (1000M/vet) before being declared to race again.

ROYAL CHOICE (HK Cheng) jumped away awkwardly.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of the case and Jockey     C Goon’s riding record.  He was suspended from riding in races for three (3) Malaysian race days effective Monday, 7th May 2018 and to expire on Saturday, 19th May 2018, both days inclusive.  He was advised of his Right of Appeal (3.15   pm)

JUTSU (J De Souza) had to be steadied racing to the 1000M when RELAU STAR shifted in slightly.

RA FORCE (App P Mogun) raced very greenly from the 300M and shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip at the 200M and then shifted out from the 100M and approaching the finish, had to shift off the heels of SAKURA JAPAN (S Ruzaini) and as a consequence, JUTSU had to be steadied.

ONFLEEK which was racing greenly, shifted out racing to the 250M and caused D’GREAT ARES (App S Rosmizan) to be hampered and taken out onto SUPER HARD (Z Khairil) , resulting in both those horses being taken wide.

Passing the 250M, D’GREAT DRAGON (HK Cheng) which was racing greenly, rolled inward, resulting in ALWAYS D’GREAT being disappointed for a run.  Shortly thereafter, D’GREAT DRAGON rolled out and then ran in again at the 100M, further inconveniencing ALWAYS D’GREAT.

FLYING AMIGA (F Yap) had to be steadied off the heels of JUTSU which rolled out under pressure at the 100M.

GHOST BANK was disappointed for a clear run over the final 50M due to ALWAYS D’GREAT shifting out under the whip and approaching the finish, clipped the heels of ALWAYS D’GREAT and stumbled.

Post-race veterinary examinations of ALWAYS D’GREAT, JUTSU, FLYING AMIGA and SUPER HARD revealed no obvious abnormality.

GENERAL REPORT(S)

APPEAL BY APP M HANIF AGAINST THE FOUR (4) MONTHS SUSPENSION AND RM20,000/- FINE IMPOSED BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS UNDER MRA RULE 44(10) IN CONNECTION WITH HIS RIDING AND HANDLING OF “WARN YOU MAN” IN RACE 1 (R360) CLASS 5- 1200M, PENANG MARCH MEETING 2018 – 1ST DAY, SUNDAY, 18TH MARCH 2018

The Penang Turf Club Racing Stewards today (6th May 2018) heard the above appeal at the Penang Turf Club.

After considering submissions from App M Hanif in the presence of his Master, Trainer J Tan, and the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards dismissed App M Hanif’s appeal.  His 4-month suspension with effect from 26th March 2018 and to expire on 25th July 2018, both dates inclusive, and the fine of RM20,000/- remain in effect.  App M Hanif’s deposit was forfeited.

RACE 3 (R560) CLASS 5 – 1300M, 2ND DAY, SUNDAY, 29TH APRIL 2018,

PENANG APRIL/MAY MEETING 2018

At the conclusion of an Inquiry today (6th May 2018) into the riding of D’GREAT DRAGON in the above race, further evidence was taken from Jockey F Yap and Trainer J Tan, the rider and the trainer of the gelding respectively.

Trainer J Tan explained that D’GREAT DRAGON had been showing nervous behavior in the barrier and he had applied winkers the first time on that day.  Jockey F Yap stated that the Trainer had explained to him regarding the gelding’s nervous behavior and to be careful at the start.  Jockey F Yap explained that despite being careful, D’GREAT DRAGON still threw its head up as the start was effected and jumped away awkwardly, resulting in him being slow into stride.  At about the 1000M, he had to steady to avoid the heels of MULTI WEALTH which rolled in, placing his mount further back than he had anticipated.  Jockey F Yap further explained that after the incident at the start and having to steady at the 1000M, he was unable to take a more forward position.

After taking note of the above explanations and reviewing the videos of the race, the Stewards took no further action in this matter,

RACE 5 (R562) NOVICE – 1200M, 2ND DAY, SUNDAY, 29TH APRIL 2018,

PENANG APRIL/MAY MEETING 2018

Trainer S Cook was fined RM500/- (Malaysian Ringgit Five Hundred) for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for failing to scratch COMMON SENSE (F Yap) in the above race within the stipulated time.

GENERAL REPORT – SLTC

RACE 3 (R484) CLASS 5 – 1400M (LONG COURSE B), SUNDAY, 15 APRIL 2018, SELANGOR TURF CLUB APRIL MEETING 2018

The Stewards, on 4 May 2018 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of HAPPY DAYZ. Evidence was taken from Jockey HK Cheng and Trainer C Leck, the rider and Trainer of HAPPY DAYZ respectively.

Jockey HK Cheng stated that after jumping well, HAPPY DAYZ was difficult to settle in the early stages, and that he restrained the gelding approaching the 1000M until the 800M in an attempt to conserve his energy. However, HAPPY DAYZ continued to race keenly and gave no response to pressure in the straight.

Trainer C Leck stated that he was disappointed with the performance of HAPPY DAYZ, adding that the gelding displayed a poor temperament generally and was difficult to manage during trackwork. He had anticipated that a step up in distance to 1400M would be suitable, and explained that the performance in this race was so far below his expectations that he feared HAPPY DAYZ may have bled. However, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant finding.

Having heard their evidence, the Stewards warned Jockey HK Cheng that in future he must ride all his mounts in a positive manner so as to leave no room for query.
