It will be a test of endurance as 14 top class horses comes under the starter’s orders in the running of the 23th edition of the Selangor Gold Cup in Race 9 on Sunday.
The second leg of the ever popular Triple Crown Series – the Group 1 event over 1600m looks promising for trainer Frank Maynard’s Showboy, who has the edge over the rest of the runners to win the coveted cup.
The five-year-old by Showcasing has won six wins from many starts and will be going over the 1600m event for the first time.
Last outing, Showboy was tucked in six spot throughout the race and ran on gamely to finish third to Volcanic General in the first leg of the Triple Crown Series – The Tunku Gold Cup over 1200m last month.
Showboy looks very impressive in the morning workouts and jockey Oscar Chavez takes the reins, should put up a bold showing.
Challenges likely to come from Truson and last year’s winner Listen, both are looking very fit and should figure out the finish.
Leading trainer Richard Lines’s En Lauder looks formidable to win this year’s running of the Kenilworth Cup over 1200m in Race 6.
The seven-year-old by Zabeel came home a game fourth to Browcow last outing at Penang early this month.
En Lauder will be ridden by jockey J Low and looks hard to beat.
Trainer Frank Maynard should cap a great day with Commando Eclipse in the running of the Mitavite Cup over 1200m in Race 10.
Last start winner, Commando Eclipse, was well up with the early part of the race and ran on very well to beat Raja Mahkota at this course last month.
